I think the best analogue for Rowling and the "I can't stop supporting her" crowd is Morrissey. It's hard to explain to people who weren't there at the time just how important The Smiths were for outsider kids as a source of solace, solidarity and hope. Far more than the HP books in all honesty...

For context, the PM’s previous AI Adviser’s register of interests *was* published.

Perhaps selecting ministers of state based on their willingness to repeat bullshit in the face of overwhelming evidence rather than basic competence is a mistake. It’s not for me to say.
Almost most worrying is that if this recent @prospectmagazine.co.uk podcast is anything to do back, culture secretary Lisa Nandy doesn’t understand broadcasting impartiality rules either

HMP Wandsworth gets ‘green light’ to use AI after team sent in to find ‘quick fixes’ after spate of mistakes
Artificial intelligence chatbots could be used to stop prisoners from being mistakenly released from jail, a justice minister told the House of Lords on Monday.
Lord Timpson said HMP Wandsworth had been given the “green light” to use artificial intelligence (AI) after a specialised team was sent in to find “some quick fixes”. Continue reading...

I am extremely disappointed that Charlotte Nichols MP continues to promote this frivolous and pointless campaign, rather than addressing the transphobia that actually led to Brianna Ghey being murdered.
On Brianna's 19th birthday, this morning I joined @cheshirepcc.bsky.social and the Brianna Ghey Legacy Project Phone Free Education campaign at the launch at Jodrell Bank of a new £150k initiative to make Cheshire the first county in the UK where ALL state high schools have lockable phone pouches.

Right, so we’re all agreed we’re going to drop the two child cap after all the political capital we spent defending it for no benefit?
<everyone nods>
And we’re going to be really critical of what a shitty policy it is?
<everyone nods>
Cool. The public will love us for this. Much electability.

"I don't think a child should be penalised because they're in a bigger family through no fault of their own," she tells BBC.

IIRC, No Country for Old Men, Juno and There Will Be Blood were all released on the same day in the UK
NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN was released 18 years ago today. One of the most successful movies of the Coen brothers, and acclaimed as one of the great book-to-screen adaptations of the 21st century, missing the story of how it came to be is like losing a Chigurh coin toss…

Over and over, centrists make this same mistake. They think there's some reasonable middle ground and that the right, like them, will appreciate the effort made to find it. But that is a fundamental misunderstanding of right-wing politics. It is a belief system structured around power alone.

If I was a PM with a massive majority who would be personally affected by this, I’d probably change the rules. Unless someone gave me box seats at a football game or a pair of glasses, then I’d let it happen.
And if we think it’s bad now, imagine what it could look like, say, two months from a U.K. general election?
Could imagine huge sums in US far right cash flooding in, much of what would only be declared after the election (our electoral rules really are a jape)

Be clear, the American far right are coming for British democracy.

Is there a single recorded case of someone nominally centrist or even on the soft right pandering to far right cranks and then not being fucked over by them anyway?
It seems very ironic that the right-wing director of the BBC should be unseated by right-wing outrage over the Beeb’s coverage of Trump’s attempt at a right-wing coup, almost five years ago.

Amazing that the Packers lost to the Browns because we got outplayed by a special teams unit that has let both a punt return and a kick return go for touchdowns in the same first quarter
