Bending your institution to meet the prejudices of your dumbest, meanest students is a surefire way to destroy a university.

Now any student can just scrawl “the Bible says this is wrong” on any test and skate to an A at the Oklahoma Football Outlet and Diploma Factory.

This guide is to help you bring a bit more consent into your celebrations. Consent isn’t just about sex and it’s not just about yes or no. We can all have more consent in our lives, and thinking about how to do this can mean we can all have a better time. www.bishuk.com/relationship...
Consensual Festivities
Christmas and other festivals are often just really stressful for people. If we tried to have more consensual festivities, they would be a lot more fun.

As the piece reflects, this has been a year when those with the most vocal anti-asylum views were visible & vocal. Thousands of those v sympathetic to asylum seekers & refugees are part of a quiet movement seeking to play a practical part in welcoming asylum seekers & refugees around the country

In all sincerity I often sit here and wonder how better people could have given warnings about the rise of global fascism, and I struggle to think what else could have been tried. There were subtle warnings and loud warnings, obnoxious warnings and gentle warnings, the full range. I just don't know.
I keep thinking about this. I was talking to a journalist friend about Project 2025, and he was saying how so much of it is being executed with frightening efficiency. And it is all the more frustrating because everyone with the power to stop it was so thoroughly and repeatedly warned.
I mean I think the people who underestimated the fascists are the stupids in this equation. The fascists had a 60 year plan, they documented the last year of it very publicly, and they are successfully implementing all of it.

Please consider how this increasingly common framing (must be nice to have time to read) may do the work of painting reading (and thinking) as an elite activity, which may be dangerous in a time of fascism. I know that is not your intention but this line of AI defence makes me nervous.

Encouraging undergraduates to *start* with AI, robs them of the skills they need to begin learning how to be a history detective. And when you move up to the graduate level, AI doesn't have access to actual archives. And it cannot produce new knowledge. *YOU* have to do that.

In the dark of December
A beautiful thing
A sweet to remember
"We are closer to Spring
than we were in September."
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
Happy Winter Solstice ❄️

Make sure to get outside today, make use of every bit of daylight we have and when the night comes, know that tomorrow will be that little bit lighter 🙌🏻

Across the country, women are dying of sepsis, losing organs, being arrested for miscarriages, and used as brain-dead incubators.

Corpses have more rights than women living under abortion bans.

What better moment to run a full court cultural press about how freedom isn’t that great anyway?

None of this is “good faith political debate,” and it’s not a coincidence that all these outlets are suddenly interested in the same “discussion” at the same time.

Treating women’s humanity like a thought exercise makes it that much easier to legislate away

Why decline all these chances to defend feminism? Because to participate would be accepting the premise that our rights and humanity are up for debate in the first place.

Once you’ve conceded that it’s reasonable to ask whether women’s equality was a mistake, you’ve already lost.

I do like very very very traditional Christmas stuff. This includes observing the full twelve days, and it means I get my tree usually the last weekend of advent because it needs to last through the sixth.
