Yes the "liberal" press could take an interest in this one but the UK has no mainstream news outlet that isn’t extremely antitrans and thrilled to publish any lies in service of that agenda
At one point, the right wing press printed a story that 1000+ families were part of a law suit over Tavistock referrals for puberty blockers.
The only slight problem was that at that point, there hadn't even been a thousand kids referred.

This is in regards to (primarily) the US media landscape, but it could easily apply to the UK one, as well.
I think a number of press outlets badly want there to be a groundswell of anti-trans feeling, because the ownership/senior editorial of those papers have absolutely cooked their own brains on transphobia. It seems to be largely an elite psychosis!

The Power Broker - which is also the subject of a good @99pi.org podcast series - is so worth reading. Lengthy, detailed, and you come to understand just how much damage Robert Moses did to the city, during his time and afterwards - & how the NYT et al didn't bother being critical, but fawning.
