This government loves to redo an independent reivew that was too independent and didn't produce the result they wanted
An independent taskforce *just* did a huge review of ADHD in England, and the conclusion was that it's "under-recognised, under-diagnosed and under-treated."

I wouldn't call it a distraction, but rather a problem: in the United Kingdom, three of the major political parties are racist, bigoted, and far-right, and are all vying to capture the same set of racist, bigoted, and far-right freaks. And mainstream media, like the BBC, attempt to appeal to them
I can't help but feel as though all this heat over whether Nigel Farage was a racist bigot fifty years ago is a distraction from the same discussion the press and political class continue to dodge: That the party he leads, right now, is a, racist, bigoted, far-right political party.

🚨 Today, after years of police using facial recognition without proper laws or safeguards, the Home Office has finally launched a public consultation. This is our chance to have our say.

It's very obvious that if any other prominent politician had been so racist in school that it's haunted 20+ former classmates ever since, it would be treated like a bigger deal. We should examine how and why "still being very racist four decades later" is acting as Farage's protective shield.

imagine, right, you're applying for a UK visa. our wages suck, bills are high, layoffs are ten a penny, & you find out you're down up to £20k minimum right from the off, alongside thousands and thousands in visa fees. who would find that remotely appealing? this is how you collapse entire industries
a family of four on a five year visa route needs to pay close to twenty grand in surcharges, in addition to visa fees, upfront at time of application. the new Labour ILR rules means that family will pay close to *forty grand* in health surcharges, on top of visa fees. just incredibly stupid stuff

The papers and everyone else can only make hay out of teenager Farage racism because if you talked about him today it would lead to some phenomenally awkward questions like "why does most of the political and journalistic establishment agree with him and why do they all talk about small boats?"

Which is a perfect summary of how vile & vindictive the people who govern us have become in the appeasement of eg twats like Nigel Farage - now able to hand-wring about being called a racist whilst the Labour government fully embraces & enacts every racist policy position he’s ever farted out

I see he’s deleted it now but I was quoting a nasty little post from the MP for Chesterfield in which he claims that border controls are progressive because we can’t have an ‘international NHS’. Presumably he thinks people who move here should not be allowed access to public healthcare

It is an ‘international NHS’ because it is staffed by people from all over the world. In my very recent experience, if people born overseas hadn’t come to share their skills in our health service then I could very well have lost my mum. Skilled & compassionate migrant labour saved her life.

Everyone’s talking about whether Farage was racist to schoolchildren as a boy when he was racist to schoolchildren THIS WEEK. All the kids who are of reading age can read what he says about them.
John Swinney has responded to Nigel Farage's attack on Glasgow schoolchildren, calling it 'quite simply racist'

If you're concerned about the erosion of anti racist norms and the rise of the far right, you have to factor in two solid years of bipartisan British complicity in this genocide. What do you think our government's role in this racist bloodbath tells us about the state of our political culture?
Analysts told me that they agree with @amnesty.org in that Israel's genocide in Gaza is not over.

The mass killing has slowed but the conditions for life & society have been destroyed and are not being allowed to be rebuilt.

In my teens, I really did like aspects of his films (along w/ everyone else) ie the aesthetic, the music etc, & as I grew older, I was able to seek out the far better originals that he had "paid homage"(🙄). From my 20s onwards, I also came to see how misogynistic and hollow his work actually is.
Tarantino is clearly a sick misogynist who gets off on hurting women.
There's numerous stories of him stepping in to perform violent acts on women in his films whenever he can (face won't be seen)

This is what government censorship actually looks like: defunding entire fields, deporting researchers, and quite effectively chilling speech that helps people understand how our information systems are being exploited and calls out powerful people and platforms for their bullshit.
For the last decade, the pervasive spread of bullshit & manipulation of online platforms have been widely recognized societal concerns. Now non US citizens studying those subjects can be labeled “censors” & denied visas or deported from the US. Censorship, indeed. www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

Random conspiracy brain belch: one part of only ever hear about Putin being evil re Ukraine, because otherwise a lot of UK outlets, commentators and politicians would have to try to, in regards to LGBTQ+ and *especially* trans rights, explain why they sound exactly like him and his government.
