Black and Asian staff left feeling ‘deliberately intimidated’, according to chief executive of one NHS trust

As we approach the founding conference, one question is on everyone’s mind: What kind of party are we building? Join Democratic Socialists for the first in our “In Conversation With…” series, featuring Zarah Sultana MP, to discuss how we can make the new party a truly member-led, democratic, and socialist organisation: from the constitution to the conference floor. We’ll be exploring shared priorities such as a sovereign conference, delegate democracy, real local autonomy, and a collective leadership accountable to members, alongside the broader vision for how this new formation can unite the left and give voice to working-class people. This will be a space for constructive discussion, reflection, and political clarity — a chance to shape the conversation before the founding conference and to strengthen the democratic movement that’s emerging around Your Party. First, three speakers from the Democratic Socialists will cover different aspects of our proposals and vision: - Max S will present our case for a party republic, not a party dictatorship - Chloe B will go through our newly-ratified proposed Political Statement, including our ten key demands for a socialist republic - Ewan T will explain our major amendments to the YP founding documents, including what’s in them and our justification After contributions from these speakers, Zarah Sultana will present her own proposals, clarifying where they align with ours as well as where there are differences. Following that, we’ll open up for questions and discussion from attendees. After the main event and a short break, we’ll move on to the Lock-In with DSYP - a more casual, discussion-oriented session where you can get to know DSYP a little better.
