Rollercoaster enjoyer, polytheistic weird fiction cultist, mediocre talent for self-deprecation. Please do not take lack of followbacks personally.
Something I've been holding back on saying and would only post at 2 in the morning; the fact that Trump is clearly not well and the desire to see him held judicially accountable are two things that could easily come into conflict in the medium term future, assuming IT doesn't make that moot
it has absolutely revised my opinion on tribunals, i will tell you that.
The last ~year has really made me rethink my opinion of revolutionaries who engaged in broad purges.

Got burned pretty bad breaking with my party for the first time in 20 years on his behalf. I knew who he was, but I expected a hard (not stupid) line on Trump. Hasn't happened.

He wants to show a commitment to what he campaigned on, he's welcome, but I'm not extending faith till I see that.
It's kinda amazing the depth and breadth of the positive reaction to the Carney Davos speech. I get it - Canadians like when int'l people laud us. But Carney said similar things during the election campaign and we've seen how he's governed since. I'm almost stupefied by how naive everyone is being.

I Was Teaching at Oxford, But Now I'm a Plague Doctor?!!
I'm Just a Duke's Son But Apparently I'm Destined to Lead a Galactic Jihad?!
On the other hand I think it would be very funny to retitle literary fiction light novel style. “Oh No! This Author Stand-In is Unhappily Married”

Inaction also has costs.
Something that should be motivating squeamish congressional Democrats is that if people don't see help coming, this kind of resistance is going to escalate pretty drastically
Border Patrol agents are very sad that everyone in Minnesota hates them.

“At each gas station where the agents stopped to use the restroom, groups of agitators appeared, yelled at them, stalked them, and even tried to prevent law enforcement vehicles from leaving…”

Real Torture Memos vibes from this shit
ICE secretly told its officers that any time someone has been ordered removed, ICE can break down their door.

It has been accepted for generations that the only thing which can authorize agents to break into your home is a warrant signed by a judge. No wonder ICE hid this memo!

Grand Theft Auto IV did this before Cyberpunk 2077 made it cool
i'd say it has dozens of moments of 11/10 game hidden within a bloated package of 6/10 open world stuff that doesn't gel with the story at all

So, what's the title of the Fawn Brodie esq. Biden biography?

(I think this is probably correct, I just hate it)
came to the realization (at lunch with @amannes.bsky.social, expert in all the Vices) that one reason Biden was so unfortunately bound to the idea that Republican senators were savable is because as a young widower in a new job he experienced the senate and his colleagues as a place of comfort.

Ngl, didn't have money five years ago on not watching the video/reading the article becoming an urgent social problem
We all really need to understand that everything Trump and the people around him do is all one big performance to craft and create context to form their own reality that is completely separate and distinct from the one the rest of us live in.

I understand there's a need for flexibility in moderation guidelines to avoid gaming rules, and we're not dealing with people's human rights here.

Still; not even citing an incident just opens the door for arbitrary and inscrutable moderation. It's not defensible in any way.
3-day suspension for a "Respectful Discourse" violation.

Don't know which post(s) actually triggered it, b/c it seems Bluesky opted for the Meta/Threads approach of not telling you.

Which makes the "appeal" a bit meaningless, but so it goes 🤷‍♂️

Some of you could definitely do with watching a little more Zoomer made millenial cringe mockery content, just saying
Only millennials, who grew up with a computer but in its own room doing dial up are sane. Boomers who discovered the internet as adults are insane from too little internet. So too zoomers who grew up with mobile internet are insane from too much internet.

I think what gets under my skin with discussions around online bans for kids is I never see advocates argue for it in the language of trade-offs. There is a perfectly coherent argument that the benefits for all kids outweigh the negatives for queer kids (who would still receive the general benefits)

Tbh starting to think the entire developed world was overdue for a reminder that worse things are possible, and that they are, in fact, worse

I would have preferred to avoid this but we're here now
Fundamentally the lesson American voters took from Trump I and Stop the Steal is that Worse Things Aren't Possible imo
The North Atlantic Treaty was, to be fair, on the ballot in 2016, ‘20, and ‘24 and a decadent voting public made some horrible choices.

Just saw someone arguing that there will inevitably be deaths in custody if you're detaining tens of thousands of people at a time, and uh

Well, let's take a step back and see if we can figure out why that statement might not exactly be exculpatory, shall we?

I know facts don't matter anymore but there's only 15-20 thousand Inuit in the United States. ~90 percent of the people in Greenland are Inuit.

Paid American protestors would stand out. Just a bit.
lmao the Fox commentators are using the "paid protestors" line for Nuuk protestors

Wrong. Completely wrong. Canada *does* need to be 'performative'. It's called leadership. Upholding democratic norms is done by vocal support and action, not going mute when things get tough out of cowardice and self preservation.
Canada doesn't need to be performative. The EU is making a statement because they need to demonstrate their unity and strength.
