biggest technological revolution of our lifetimes and it's not AI or blockchain or cryptocurrency or metaverse.
“South Africans like Dr. Booley have found a remedy for power cuts that have plagued people in the developing world for years. Thanks to swiftly falling prices of Chinese made solar panels and batteries, they now draw their power from the sun.”

In the spirit of making my needs known, I’m heading for over draft again. All of my funds will go to paying rent, leaving me with nothing to pay bills or buy groceries in January, which is my birth month (yay).

Any help would be much appreciated. ko-fi.com/soniasulaima...

As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

I work for myself and I still agree with this statement!
Millions of Americans remain at jobs they hate for one reason: the health insurance they receive. That’s absurd.

Universal health care will give Americans the freedom to choose the work they want without worrying about health care coverage.

Another reason for Medicare for All.

One of the things I need to add to this is that you need to be careful about people NOT IN YOUR INDUSTRY reading your contract. A good lawyer who understands contract but is not a publishing industry professional will flag for you that there are things they don't understand!
I don't know how many times it needs to be said that you absolutely should not let fucking "AI" anywhere near your legal contracts, either in creating them or evaluating them, but apparently it needs to be said at least one more time, so allow me to say it again, here, right now

If you're wondering whether the "open letter about AI" on file 770 is worth reading and engaging, it is not. The whole thing is rhetorical mush so it was no surprise when I got to the end and she admitted "her" letter was itself written by AI. Useless bait.

Ok, since this has come up four times in the last three days:

REPUTABLE LITERARY AGENTS WILL NOT CHARGE YOU MONEY.

IF A LITERARY AGENT WANTS TO CHARGE YOU FOR AN "EXPEDITED ACCESS PACKAGE" THIS IS A SCAM.

Can someone from @sfwa.org please explain what this means?

Genuine question, as the other rule already covers text, so it's clearly not about text...

This would seem to bar any use of say a search engine in writing research (all modern search engines use LLMs, including the non-gen results list)

The Governess Affair is the first novella of Courtney's I ever read and it absolutely spun me.

This is one of our genre's core works. The exploration of agency and consent after trauma should be (and is!) studied in classrooms.

If you yell HAIRPINS and folks freak out, they know.

And it's free!

Honestly authors, if your contract has language in there about faithful translation, TALK TO YOUR EDITOR AND AGENT because this isn’t it.
last month, one of my coworkers decided to use AI translation for a job. the AI skipped about 1/4 of the source text and added other stuff that didn't exist in the source. my coworkers trusted the bot output and went ahead and published this. i discovered the errors so i got the job of cleaning up.

"The time to get vaccinated is now," the CDC says. The first child has died from flu in the U.S. this year, and the CDC is closely tracking a variant that might not be well-matched to the vaccine - but so far, it looks like the shot is still protective. I'm seeing varied takes on this, and I just want to say as someone who used to work as a labor archivist, looking at the history of unions and labor laws:

Your job does not love you. Your job does not care for your well being. It is good to have a life outside of your job. Say no to time theft.
Man answering his phone on the train: Yes? Correct, I’m not at work (pause) I’m not going to answer that because I am not at work today. No, you’re going to have to ask someone who is. Goodbye.
