The Senate saw our No Kings protests and decided to make themselves High Lords.
read the actual bill text and this is quite literally a provision designed solely to impede civil and criminal investigations into United States Senators and their staff. www.appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

Talking to someone who's worked a few weeks without pay keeps Tim Kaine up at night. The hundreds of thousands of people killed from USAID aboition or torn away from their American families by Trumps Gestapo? Doesn't even give him so much as a nightmare. He's sleeping good now.
Tim Kaine on backlash he's getting: "I got the first good night's sleep last night that I've gotten since Oct 1, b/c I wasn't worried about being able to look Capitol Police in the eye when I walked in, or what a furloughed fed worker would say to me at church, or what somebody would say about SNAP"

This is what a bunch of Democrats in the Senate just voted for:
"The provision, tucked into a measure to fund the legislative branch, appears to immediately allow for eight GOP senators to sue over their phone records being seized in the course of the investigation by Jack Smith ... into the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021." www.nytimes.com/2025/11/10/u...
Spending Bill Would Pave Way for Senators to Sue Over Phone Searches
Republicans have voiced outrage that Jack Smith looked at G.O.P. lawmakers’ phone records surrounding the Jan. 6 attack. Legislation to reopen the government would allow them to sue for $500,000 each.

Long thread I spent way too much time on today about all of the many challenges that stand between Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV's) having as good of emissions output and fuel effiency performance in the Real World compared to industry-claims
People typically aren't good about plugging in their hybrids, and the battery is dead weight if unused , gives the vehicle worse fuel efficiency than a ICE when the gas engine is doing the lions share of the work. This is a known problem in the auto-industry, with companies that used to release

I am now pretty much sure that the U.S. will carry out operations in Venezuela if Maduro doesn't exit. Reopening an airbase in Puerto Rico and an Aircraft Carrier strike group located between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago, not to mention other assets, are extremely costly signals otherwise.

Thinking about all the times the democratic senate mentioned the illegal ethnic pogroms terrorizing their urban centers with secret police disappearing people, torturing captives, and murdering innocent civilians during this shutdown and smiling 🙂

And every minute that Donald Trump retains the power of budget recessions he stole from Congress, someone dies due to his illegal USAID cuts. Every minute. People talk about folks on SNAP getting hungry, well I just read something the other day of a man in Malaysia where US aid was cut. He

To repeat: I have studied a lot of cases of autocratization over the past 15 years. Wrote about them, taught about them, consulting about them.

I do not recall an opposition so apathetic, ignorant, and inept as the @democrats.org. They cling to their power, rather than fight for democracy. Shame.

Wood Mackenzie confirms new natural gas generation is expensive!

$126/MWh in 2030!

New solar plus batteries are less than half the cost of new gas!

New nuclear ($139/MWh) also is getting close to being cheaper than new gas!

Gas too is dirty, biggest CO2 electricity polluter. #energysky

I get why the people most directly personally impacted by the government shutdown are saying things like this but "the entire underpinnings of the country" have *already* collapsed and pretending they haven't isn't helpful
👇There it is, the alternative was to keep federal employees unpaid for 13 MONTHS. How the fuck do you think that would play out? A collapse of the entire underpinnings of the country, that's how.
Victory looks like a bill that extends the ACA subsidies OR (and this is a key or) keeps the government shut down until the midterms.

Yes. That's a victory too.

Self-described Liberal Zionists(laudatory) on the timeline are so fucking ready to risk it all in a confrontation with Trumpism. Wonder if it's because they've seen this song and dance before with Bibi and know it's better to fight early, even if it's painful, than planning to fight later.

Does anyone happen to have a best estimate of many people Donald Trump is going kill by USAID cuts or deport from this country by 2026/2028 if there isn't a significant check on the powers of spending, taxation, and reassigning Federal Law Enforcement to ICE/BP work Trump has stolen for himself?
