Nate not realizing that our "unincorporated territories in the Caribbean" were acquired from Denmark in the first place in exchange for... relinquishing all claims to Greenland.

Peak punditry right there.

10/10, don't ever change.
What if we decided to not opine on dumb stuff?

This is kind of freeing in a way, knowing that there’s no going back to normal. We can build something new, but it will require crushing republicans at every turn, not “working together”
There is no pre-Trump world to which we can return. That has all been washed away.

And there is no near future that is not defined by him and the cataclysm of his rule.

Wil Stancil following ICE in his Honda Fit is a wonder to behold. The man can’t be stopped
yeah the fact my car is literally half the length of theirs means I can pull extremely fast u-turns and get right behind someone coming the other direction. small cars good
When my wife's Jeep Cherokee died a couple years ago I convinced her to come over to the Honda side, and she picked out a cute blue 2015 Fit. It's the most nimble car I've ever driven. Frankly, a great set of wheels if you're trying to tail someone who can't off-road or try to Nascar their way away.

Just heard re: some ICE agents who raided a Chicago taqueria, then went back to the same taqueria for lunch the following week and got confused when the owner kicked them out, and I realized "jesus these doofuses really do believe we're all living in a video game where the NPCs have no memory"

I am a big time glasses snob so I will never wear a pair of sunglasses just because they are tech-enabled, ensuring I will never get punched in the face because someone suspects I’m surreptitiously filming them just because I’m wearing Ray-bans
New: a $60 mod to Meta's Ray-Ban glasses disables the privacy LED light. This is supposed to light when people are filming with the glasses. We bought the mod, verified it works. Now you can never be sure whether someone wearing Meta Ray-Bans is filming you or not

A $60 Mod to Meta’s Ray-Bans Disables Its Privacy-Protecting Recording Light

Why do ICE agents travel in groups of three?

One can read, one can write, and the third keeps an eye on the two intellectuals
New ICE recruiting methods have resulted in half of this group of absolute winners failing AN OPEN BOOK TEST

This somewhat fits the perception, fair or not, that High Point is for rich kids who couldn't get into Elon, which is for rich kids who couldn't get into Wake Forest, which is for rich kids who couldn't get into Duke.
It feels like the energy in higher ed these days is schools that cater to kids with ~1300 SAT scores, wealthy parents, a great lifestyle, and where there's a reasonable chance of kids getting in: www.wsj.com/us-news/educ...

Protests of normies and wine moms might be cringe to leftists and the Nazi edgelord crowd, but these are the people who vote. We are a cringe nation. All hail our cringe resistance suburban wine moms

These guys love spending other people’s money and indulging in their Nazi fantasies in the group chat. Amazing stuff
Oh man, the New York Young Republicans implicated in the Nazi groupchat scandal ran up a $23,000 tab eating filet mignon and drinking at a hotel in Syracuse -- a city with one of the highest child poverty rates *in the nation* -- and then refused to pay the bill.

First Trump is crushing the soybean farmers. Now he’s undermining the cattle ranchers. These are unexpected blessings!
Farm state Republicans are appalled by President Trump's plan to import beef from Argentina, saying it will punish U.S. cattle ranchers. This is from Sen. Deb Fischer R-Nebraska.

As a guy who keeps a bunch of good stories in my back pocket to pull out when necessary, I absolutely agree.
If the Gambino crime family shot me and I lived, I’d never shut up about it either.

“Hey Charlie, can you pass the mashed potatoes?”
“Sure, but it’s a little hard BECAUSE I WAS SHOT BY THE GAMBINO CRIME FAMILY”
“Y’know, I’ll just eat some more stuffing”

donald trump holds only two principled position: that neither corruption nor rape should be crimes
I’m very skeptical of this — not because President Trump isn’t willing to grant pardons and commutations easily, but because there is zero interest from his base in this, and he has nothing to gain from doing it.

And here come the “he’s trying to distract,” replies.

Americans are driven by extreme amounts of status anxiety. People sign up to be republicans because they think that’s the path to social respectability. The NYT is always looking for what places them in some kind if establishmentarian alongside their wealthiest and most respectable audience
the NYT's opinion is that the Democrats should take the position which upper-class Connecticut Republicans held in 2012 and that politics should be preserved in amber in that state until the sun runs out of hydrogen and swallows the earth
Ultimately it's the yawning moral void at the heart of this type of writing that baffles me. "Oh, the best data suggests that most voters feel that—" YOU ARE THE NYT EDITORIAL BOARD. I AM READING YOU FOR YOUR OPINION. TELL ME WHAT IT IS.
