2 days later and Europe already folding
On the one hand, Europe will be worried about a tit-for-tat economic spiral. But the politics of this fight really favor Europe, just as it favored the Liberals/Carney in Canada.

Moreover, a major European economic response that roils markets c/d really hurt Trump politically w/ midterms 4/

Full circle, really. Nobel heard his legacy would be as a merchant of death on account of inventing dynamite, thought a series of prizes would rescue his reputation, but oh, the folly of man
The Nobel Peace Prize becoming so prestigious that wars are fought over a head of state coveting it is some real monkey paw stuff for Alfred Nobel.

not the biggest thing when a mad king is threatening world war, but Trump clearly thinks Norway's PM picks who wins the Nobel Peace Prize, which is like thinking Donald Trump picks who wins the Oscars.

although now that I mention it he probably does think he should get to pick who wins the Oscars
Not the sort of letter committed to paper by a well man. "Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace"

Until Europe does something the assumption should be they will do nothing

They can’t even shut down the CSAM / Nazi site so….
Excellent thread by @maxbergmann.bsky.social . I think this is the crux: “why cave to keep a security commitment that is not real?”. The strategy of the EU (& even more the UK) has been to treat Trump as transactional: give him something eg on tariffs & get a security guarantee in return. 1/2
Feels like something cracked today in the transatlantic alliance. Europeans have been swallowing their pride, bitting their tongues, and bending the knee. That strategy may have bought them time but it has now clearly failed. It also had a major cost - it has made the WH think Europe will cave. 1/

The amount of chuds riding a 20 year bull market is legion
After seeing one bond guy struggle with basic percentages on live television and another fail at elementary game theory on Bluesky within weeks of one another, really starting to buy the idea that the 40-year bull market in fixed income made successes out of some stone-cold morons.
This is incredibly embarrassing for PIMCO IMO.
