Just the UK government casually changing the FUCKING TERMS OF WHAT A DISABILITY IS
Hidden behind the small sentence of needing 4 points on PIP now means you could need assistance to be able to get in or out of a bath or shower and still not qualify as disabled enough for this gov to help you with the increased cost of being disabled.
March 19, 2025 at 9:31 AM
Fuck this fucking government and their inability to understand disability. Labour are going to proudly kill thousands of people with diseases such as Long Covid and M.E.
Today is #longcovidawarenessday

If you’re not aware, LC, like ME/CFS, devastates lives. And the medical profession has almost entirely abandoned sufferers.

And now in the U.K., it sounds as if most will now lose their PIP.

"Tackling" benefits; not in the Labour manifesto, but going ahead with £6 BILLION in cuts.

Raising money for the NHS by taxing NonDoms; in the manifesto, but now not happening after lobbying.

Once again, the poor are propping up the wealthy, but with Labour instead of the Tories.
The actual fraud isn’t people faking disability. It’s politicians pretending to care about disabled people, then slashing the support that keeps us alive.

"We want to help disabled people back to work by reducing their ability to have government help to do so"

I genuinely loved Sir Stephen Timms's original appointment, but fuck me, I've done a 180 after this.

Also, don't see much difference between the last government and this on disability.
#DWP

So the government are looking to cut the access to work scheme that supports disabled people with equipment at work. They expect the employer to meet disabled worker’s access needs.

This is a huge concern and a huge mistake by the government

This.

The lack of understanding makes medical professionals simply pass the buck, which then ends up with a lunatic prescribing fresh air, yoga and positive thinking.
COVID-related conditions should be integrated into medical education rather than being left to so-called ‘Long COVID clinics.’ When those in charge lack a real understanding of the condition, these clinics end up becoming gaslighting centers. Physician education must come first.

The Cochrane cluster fuck continues...

Seems like they never had any intention of updating anything for ME/CFS patients. Big thanks to Jonathon Edwards (not the triple jumper. I assume) for his letter exposing them further to the BMJ. Shame they haven't published it, so read it here
A short recap of the latest developments concerning Cochrane's decision to abandon its update of their review on exercise therapy for ME/CFS. Also a repost of Jonathan Edwards' letter to BMJ about the same issue.

It would seem the UK governments approach to benefits is "let's take it away", regardless of Red or Blue.

They don't want to talk about Brexit, so why the fuck are they going to talk about an ongoing pandemic?
What should happen:

“The number of people unable to work due to disability is increasing, so let’s try to get to the root causes and see what preventative and curative measures we can implement to help & support people”

Not

“Let’s take people’s benefits away”

Fran is an outstanding human being and member of the #ME and #LongCovid community. This is a snippet of her life from well, to mild ME (a horrible term for something debilitating as ME) to severe ME with Long Covid
Highlights from yesterday's ITV News Calendar segment on #LongCovid on the 5 year anniversary of the first case of Covid in the UK. Fran Haddock talks about how her life has been "decimated" by the condition.

To anyone wondering why more people are claiming benefits in the UK...

Remember the global pandemic? Well, it's still happening and has had consequences that most of you are not wanting to see.

Long Covid is real. People with Long Covid need your support. Wear a mask.
If only there was some data or clear explanation about why that could be…. Oh wait. There is.

Long Covid.

People aren’t gaming the system. It’s so incredibly difficult to get “sickness benefits”. The reality is there are more people who are sick and disabled now.
