It just doesn’t get NIMBYer than Annapolis freaking Maryland and Chelsea’s spouse is an urbanist ready to tackle the NIMBYs. If you’re pissed at Schumer, start in your own back yard. I assure you there’s a Schumer or ten in your state legislature, on your city council, on your school board.
Very personal example: My spouse won two local elections (2021 + 2025) on an unapologetically pro-housing, pro-working class platform even though the city of Annapolis has a strong and vocal anti-housing contingent. You can run on your values (or support those who do) and show folks what's possible!

I don’t volunteer for the Democrats in the Senate and the House. I volunteer to support the people that the Democrats are supposed to represent and help. Now, I’m even more motivated to volunteer because it’s very clear that many Democratic leaders only work for themselves.
I can't stress this enough as a super volunteer for the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates. This should prompt you to get MORE involved, not less. Show up and use the existing infrastructure to make it work for all of us. In my neck of the woods, we've seen a ton of local victories this way.
Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.

The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.

This is how the lunatic fringe took over the GOP, and now we need the pro-democracy, anti-corporates to take over the Dems.

We have two parties and only two parties in this country for STRUCTURAL reasons. Voting third party - even with RCV - is not going to change that.

welcome everyone to the demoralization train that red states have felt for ages!

check out your local dems and support them, because the national ones haven't been there for common folks in a long ass time. and locals have had to build infrastructure *for the situation at hand*

Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

For those playing along at home, Maryland senators were both “no” votes BUT it’s still important to call and give them positive reinforcement for the next round. Sticks and carrots.
Everyone needs to call. Everyone, everyone, everyone - first thing Monday morning!

Final votes can differ from the procedural vote to advance the bill. CALL your Democratic Senators, & tell your friends & family to call theirs.
They need to be overwhelmed by the volume of calls. Those currently able NEED to understand that poverty and needing help can happen to anyone, at any time!

I am not going to let Schumer and 8 center-right Democrats bring me down. We won on Tuesday. We're gonna keep winning. Just keep telling the stories of what the Trump administration is doing and how it's making lives so much harder, about the corruption, the incompetence, the violence.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Listening to Jock Jams and thinking about how this music led us to believe that life would always be this upbeat. Everybody dance now! Sweet dreams of rhythm and dancing! The Vengabus is coming! Nobody said anything about the eventual fascism!

very long good thread about why trump is so central to the current GOP--he's the only thing holding together what is in fact a very fractious coalition, and even if he lives out this presidency he's clearly not gonna be a force for much longer
Trump is the *only* one that was able to hold together the core coalition that brought this wave of the American conservative movement to power. It feels bad to us because he is flaunting norms and acting in such a way that suggests he has no plans to leave power, and the GOP w/him, for generations

OVER A MILLION USERS

DISCUSS SUICIDE WITH CHATGPT

EVERY *WEEK*

what the fuck are we DOING here
Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.
I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.
