I've been wondering if (or really when) we'd see purges & lockdowns of accounts critical of those in power. I guess this is an early answer to both questions (yes & now).
In a rare case of Substack notes usefulness, I just learned that Sarah Kendzior (author of They Knew and a brilliant writer) got bounced from Bluesky. What the hell? new @sarahkendzior.bsky.social

I consume a massive amount of political news. And in every story the reporter contacts the specific Trump admin spokesperson for comment and the response is always a venomous personal insult followed by praise for Trump or a cabinet official. I realize that has always been standard journalistic

I've been paying for my health insurance without subsidy since the ACA came in, so I am already used to paying more than the subsidized. My insurance rate is *still* going up by 25% for 2026. I can't imagine the system shock if you are dealing with that cost boost AND losing a subsidy.

IMO, Trump likes these optics not because he believes any of the nonsense people are saying to them. He likes them because people say this nonsense publicly as a demonstration of submission. It's about power and ego, nothing more.
People marvel at this, but this is what it’s all about for Trump. He needs this constant lavish praise as deeply and profoundly as you and I need air.
But also: Imagine what a basket case you would have to be psychologically to need this all the time.

This seems like the most straightforward and also basically accurate message.
instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

I do think this is a point of radicalization because a lot of angry, angry normal people were ready to dig in and suffer a lot in order to make fascists suffer a little, and their resolution was sold out and made into a mockery

Rick Scott was CEO of a large, for-profit healthcare company called HCA. While Rick Scott was CEO, HCA stole so much money from Medicare they were fined $1.7 Billion.
Rick Scott told me his plan would be to take all of the remaining ACA subsidies and redistribute them to HSA accounts and people can then buy whatever insurance a state certifies. Basically a repeal/replace.
He denied when I asked wouldn’t that create two-tiered system where sick pay much more…
