On a good day, books, gaming & cats, on a bad day politics
I had foolishly expected Bluesky to be less weird about people enjoying food than twitter was.
I was going to post a photo of the take out we ordered, but I was afraid blue resist accounts would find me.

Seems like LLMs are even worse at architecture than they are at art. This is hilariously bad.

This is your occasional reminder that, if you like Neil Gaiman's stuff, but can't bring yourself to like it anymore for justifiable reasons, Tanith Lee is the author he is credibly accused of extensively cribbing from, and her work is on Audible, and AMAZING.

If you missed out big, BIG Black Friday sale, you can still catch a nice deal on any ICC book we have in stock!

Your support would be extra-appreciated right now, as we are shaking off the splash damage from the Baker & Taylor bankruptcy, and four figures in invoices will not be honored.
If the snow hasn't caught up to you yet, December is in full force! ☃️

We've still got time for you to save 30% off EVERY BOOK (and ebook!) on the Iron Circus website until the 16th! Buying in advance gives us time to get it in the mail before the big day(s), so don't wait! 📦❄️

If the trivial things mentioned here _really_ cause the insane levels of lag people experience then the game is even more of a disaster area than I assume.

I’ve seen the kind of people @kristadb1.bsky.social used to attract on Reddit so I’m not super surprised by what she’s getting here, but also I realized some of this (not all) is people on the Discover tab not understanding how social media works because I used to see this on Facebook.

Busan installed a giant multi-story LED screen over Haeundae Beach... that plays a loop of AI-generated images of Haeundae Beach... that look nothing like Haeundae Beach.

The screen is not showing off Haeundae Beach, it is actively preventing people from looking at it to show them something worse.

The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

i know i'm not the first to say it, but since talking to AI is basically trying to find the right words to trick a completely alien & amoral "intelligence" into doing what you want while it's actively trying to drive you insane, it's kind of equivalent to summoning a demon
I grew up hearing how even touching a ouija board could make the entire plot of the movie “The Exorcist” happen to you, so could churches maybe start saying the same about ChatGPT and the like?

REMINDER: if you think your right-on lefty/socialist/communist/etc. politics justifies pirating books, well guess what? Most writers don't make a living wage from their books or writing work, and stealing from them makes you a class traitor.

This fight over “should authors get paid for their work” debate boils down to this: many, MANY people do not see art as labor.
If art isn’t labor, then you don’t have to change your political views to justify piracy. Easy peasy!

Sheesh that AI bro is aggressively delusional. How can he be so proud that he didn't write a single line of code or understand the output of the LLMs he used? And then claim that he dumped this turd to provoke a design discussion?
Submitting a 13K-line PR that was entirely AI-written, where the AI inserted copyright headers for someone who isn’t the submitter, that you’re sure is fine because the AI told you it’s fine is so many kinds of broken.

Your choices are learning to collaborate or be a solo dev.
One of the many joys of using AI for programming is the creation of huge PRs on complex topics that the authors barely understand, but still suggest "because they work". Here's a great example from #OCaml github.com/ocaml/ocaml/...

Kudos to OCaml's maintainers for handling this so gracefully.

I have had it with the justifications. The weaponization of poverty, neurodiversity, mental illness, all of it.

if you follow me and are using my RTs of authors' books to pirate books (many who are financially struggling, I might add), then frankly fuck off.
