Bees 🐝

Ominous bird valentines.

I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

All of these stories are terrible but it's the bigger picture that terrifies me even more.

The US only has 350m people. If you can't turn a profit without access to the US market that's ONLY because of our dysfunctional for-profit healthcare system.

Yesterday, someone made a Dungeons & Dragons analogy for vaccines in our (Facebook) comments. I don't play or understand D&D, so I asked our Preparedness Coordinator to explain. I still don’t understand it, but he said this analogy will be understood by people who do! Anyway, please get vaccinated.
Text says "A measles vaccine analogy if you understand Dungeons & Dragons: Measles has a DC of 19 (you have an approximately 90% chance of getting measles if exposed and not vaccinated). The measles vaccine (MMR) would confer a +17 bonus to the average adventurer (CON 10), giving you a 95% chance to resist measles if you encounter the disease in your journey. (Two doses of the MMR vaccine actually = about 97% effective, but I’m told getting to 97% exactly in the game is more complicated than can be explained in a graphic.). As the US doubles down on fossil fuels and blocks wind & solar installations, its emissions are ticking up.

In contrast, China's emissions appear to have peaked. In the last 2 yrs, they installed more new solar energy each year than the U.S. has in its entire history.
