Alright, let's try to talk about my person's favorite child too for a change.

I'll eventually answer all of them, but for now 1 like =1 answer like usual.

I'm not one for resolutions or goals and shit is still very very messy, but for fucks sake I want 2026 to be the year I finally have at least a completed Prologue for Chosen?. It's long overdue and I need to buckle down and get back into it.
Hey, #writingcommunity...

What's one big writing goal you want to accomplish in 2026??

I'd like to start cheering you on immediately, please and thanks 💜

Cheers and many many thanks for a stress free end of the year... And here's hoping I can get some work soon so I don't need to do this again. ❤️

Perform empathy. Please. Perform the fuck out of it. It's so good to act with kindness. I hope it penetrates to a place where you feel it, too, but if you must act some way, act the right way. I'm not here to judge your authenticity, I just want you to be kind, thoughtful, and mortified by meanness.

All I want for Christmas is financial stability, but since I can't get that apparently meeting my goal would help a ton. I got last and this month covered with people's assistance, but a couple more while I continue to apply for stuff would be a huge relief.

The best way I can explain this is like
When artists use references, real-life photos, history, inanimate objects to draw inspiration from, it's like these are raw colors and painting an idea in our head with them.

AI images are ideas premixed into a muddy brown, which further muddies ideas
We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

I honestly don't know what else to say about this shit that hasn't already been said, man.

Fucking AI has no concept of context or cultural nuance when it comes to words and correcting that shit is literally twice the work compared to translating it directly, but sure pay us even less to do that.

Laughs in has barely seen any job offers that didn't involve training fucking AI for peanuts in over a year.

Anyway I have a ko-fi and medical issues, so ya know link in bio. 😑
If they want to keep getting work, they can review (=rewrite) the AI slop, for 1/3 of their normal rate (which was already low to begin with)

Readers, we HAVE to complain about it, hold the publishers accountable and boycott these books

French publishing house Harlequin decided to use AI translation instead of human translations.

All their freelance translators (some of whom had been working with Harlequin for +30y!!!) were told they would no longer receive work from Harlequin

Not only do I not want GenAI to help me with my writing or art, I am actively in fear of it barging down the door like some roaming know-it-all who knows nothing and grabs my pen out of my hand and starts scribbling nonsense all over my carefully crafted and hard won stuff. Begone, foul fiend!

Every writer who generates a slop image for their work is a class traitor.

"I can't afford a visual artist"

So your solution is stabbing artists in the back? Stealing from them?

Furthermore, slop-generated imagery suggests slop-generated writing. That's how you're presenting yourself.

this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

#LateNightWrite Okay suppose I should answer this.

This writing year has been rough to say the least. I mean ever since surgery recovery late last year, which took longer and it was a lot worse than I expected, I've been running on fumes mentally. I've been thinking about Chosen? a lot and👇
I wanted the last #LateNightWrite of the year to be a little more elaborate but I am once again not doing good this weekend. So we're gonna a do a "how was your writing year" free form prompt tonight and I'll be back with proper questions, at the right time, after the holidays!
