probably "I know a lawyer joke, want to hear it?" I have heard it. I know the variants. I just work here. I don't think it's awesome that people think I'm a snake/shark/rat/first against the wall or whatever.
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

I want to make a list of *short stories* (any genre) published by intersex authors in 2025 & hopefully going forward. I've been meaning to do this for a while, and I think now there are plenty of stories.

If you have some stories, let me know / if not, please repost to spread the word?

Thank you!

People who want to make the web accessible need to understand the many different ways that people with disabilities use the web. This W3C resource offers a good introduction to how disabled people navigate the web, and barriers they commonly encounter.

This is one of those stories that makes it clear that this is not Nazi Germany. Our leaders and institutions may be run by fascists and cowards but this a country that horror and necessity has turned into a nation full of heroes

Been thinking this morning about how if you're a US freelancer and you haven't increased your rates by about 6% since June 2025, you're taking a pay cut.

Which also means: if you're a publisher and haven't increased what you're paying by 6%, you've given your staff/freelancers a pay cut.

Just emailed Grove Atlantic with info and documentation on this scam, about which I've gotten two recent reports. It's being run by publishing scammer WestPage Press. Impersonating publishers with fake contract offers is a very common ploy for this type of scam.
ICYMI #WritingCommunity Grove Atlantic is trying to track down scammers, and if you've encountered them, they'd like your help

Opening shelter beds isn’t the same as ending unsheltered homelessness. We’re seeing more people become homeless than we can house, and we run the risk of creating a bottleneck if we spend all our money on increasing a resource that is meant to be temporary.
Mayor Wilson pledged to end unsheltered homelessness in Portland by Dec. 1.

Today, people are still sleeping on Portland streets.

But Wilson did met one goal: He secured $$ to open his goal of 1,500 new beds. (Yet only 890 of those beds are currently open for use.)

Where we're at/what's next:
The state of Portland’s homelessness crisis, as mayor’s critical deadline passes
Mayor Wilson came into office with a pledge to end street sleeping by Dec. 1. Today, thousands still live outside.

The average American income is below the poverty line in almost every major city. If you want people to shop, you need to pay them enough money that they can spend some of it. There is an actual limit to how many hours a day a person can work.
If you want people to spend more, pay them more.
