This is literally what the Canadians and American did to indigenous kids by shipping them off to residential schools. Anyone who cannot draw the basest of parallels and see that Russia has been committing genocide against Ukrainians since 2014 shouldn't be allowed in polite society.

This is true and also, increasingly, I am less and less understanding of a public that indulges these lies - because what is meant by illegal in too many minds is "inhuman". And that belief is encouraged by the media, yes, but at some point citizens have to take responsibility for it too.

Here’s the thing about “free speech” discourse like this - it doesn’t exist in a bubble. It’s at best a distraction and at worst a direct enabling of the dehumanisation of starving Palestinians as they are being shot by the IDF as they wait for aid. The sheer narcissism of this is mind-blowing.
Grim. A few days ago one of Germany’s biggest newspapers printed an op-ed which ended with a “joke” that the IDF should keep shooting Palestinians even if they felt exhausted. The article was deleted from the online edition after widespread fury. Most op-eds since have defended it as “free speech”.
