Amazed at the responses. I'll likely have to do (at least) two separate sessions to accommodate everyone!

You can still register your interest and I'll send you an update with all the details.

An openly Nazi policy. Not exaggerating when I say even suggesting this fascist shit should get you hauled up in front of the ombudsman
The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

Yeah honestly what do you even say here? Sure, Dick. Ok, boomer.

It makes perfect sense to reopen the border with Belarus, obviously.
Polish PM Tusk confirms an act of sabotage on the Warsaw-Lublin rail line. An explosive device destroyed part of the track. Tusk called it an attack on Poland’s security and civilians, also noting the route’s strategic role in supplying aid to Ukraine. “We will catch the perpetrators,” he said.

I've noticed this too! It's like even Occupy people are embarrassed by it now
Its really interesting that people think I'm laying my thumb on the scale and saying Occupy was good (or bad). I'm saying it's a significant piece of modern history thar directly ties to this moment and yet we don't really talk about it. That's weird.

Calm me a cynic, but this reads almost identically to 'PiS cuts corrupt deal with dictator Lukashenko, will reopen crossings in exchange for kickbacks, promises to halt migrants'
Poland has reopened long-closed border crossings with Belarus at Kuźnica and Bobrowniki. Kuźnica now allows passenger cars (no buses), while Bobrowniki is open to cars, buses, and freight. Regional officials noted the closures had deeply hurt local businesses.

This is likely about Zap (have heard similar things from guys on the ground), but unfortunately, our generals consistently seem to forget that a smaller Soviet army cannot defeat a larger Soviet army (despite I'm pretty sure that phrase was dubbed by our own military analysts).
Consensus opinion of Ukrainian servicemen and others in the know (reporters, reputable Western experts etc.):

UA Generals' mistakes caused a "strategic crisis" in the ground war; there's real risk of Ukraine losing big chunks of territory in the eastern and southern parts of the frontline.

I was once offered to ghostwrite one of these puff pieces that would run under a well-known byline at the Paper of Record - declined because a) I'm a journalist, and that means something to me, and b) I scared our legal by subtly implying that I would be a in a position to blackmail a lot of people.
Theres a big story waiting to be written on how these powerful PR firms plant and kill stories in major publications and how our information environment is not-so-subtly skewed by which people have access to them and which don't
it‘s doing the nyt thing where they publish a glam profile commissioned by a crisis management pr firm with well-known ties to past and present nyt writers

One of the more annoying facets of being Romeo is, I will do any task at any time if it touches on my core competencies - translation, editing, etc - almost regardless of complexity and deadline, but ask me to fulfill my basic administrative obligations - like send an email - and nope, I'm incapable

This is how I knew as a kid that white people were lying about not being racist - they pretended stuff that happened in relatively recent memory ('colorblindness' had already been a trend in the 90s) had occured so long ago that nothing of that era could remain.
It’s useful for people of my generation to be reminded that this wasn’t that long ago. Ruby Bridges isn’t just still alive—she’s only 71, not ancient!
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

who gets this kind of shitty romanticizing prose written about them, and who gets dry commentary, depends on being in the club or not. as a journalist I find little more obnoxious than the idea of going to bat for somebody who violated basic professional ethics simply because she's in the club
