To be honest, things like this just make me realize how much Dems handicap themselves by pretending partisanship isn't the driving force behind American politics. It is...sad, really.
Trump can fly to Bragg, give a campaign rally in front of uniformed troops, and tell them how to vote—and that’s just “patriotic.” But 6 veterans in Congress remind the same troops they must refuse illegal orders, and his DOJ tries to brand it sedition. It’s authoritarian hypocrisy.
Trump tells soldiers to vote GOP in campaign-style rally at Fort Bragg
Army policy prohibits partisan displays, and most service members refrained from cheering.

We bought Article II of the United Nations Charter with the blood of a hundred million human beings, and less than a century later, it's being sold for nothing by people who don't even understand what they're doing.
i think this is what drives me nuts. people talk about how, say, the UN was founded by "starry eyed idealists" who didn't understand "reality." the truth is that the UN was founded by those who had just fought and *won* the bloodiest war in human history.

yeah anyone who thinks this is a great idea wants a five year old victim to have to choose if they want their relative to die
As a child protection professional, I can tell you the death penalty is NOT an awesome solution to child sexual abuse. Most children are abused by family members; they will not report if their family members will die as a result.

You could say I’m disenchanted
"Small town tolerance" is 90% propaganda. Rhetorically everyone values 'minding their own business' and in practice this is true about 1/10 the time.

Urban areas seem to be somewhat reversed - rhetorically communitarian (for better & worse), practically more individualistic

Fundamentally by responding to MAGA Republican moral panics by trying to emulate their policies they created the illusion the moral panic was real. A case of elite projection. Just like the entire anti-trans movement, especially around sports.
Remarkable: Majority of working class voters oppose deportations of undocumented immigrants with jobs/no criminal records, per new Marquette data.

Remember how pundits said 2024 meant Dems must become restrictionist to win back working class? I challenge that here:

This is so much worse than what took down Nixon, difference was that then the media did not like Nixon and wasn't trying to help him and today the media is controlled by the Epstein-Oligarch class and so is part of the same conspiracy that Trump is and buries it
This is crazy — why is Pam Bondi *defiantly* awarding privilege to an email that was only between Jeff Epstein & Ghislaine Maxwell, about Donald Trump’s relationship with Epstein? www.youtube.com/shorts/eAbuj...

Big shocker that the brownshirt militia created by the Russian puppet is made up of Russia supporters.
As if Ukrainian refugees haven’t endured enough suffering, now they must face this as legal immigrants in the US.

I always figured this was uncontroversial, but why bother listening to folks who have been doing the work for years? It's far better to ignore any experience and pretend that no one has ever engaged in protests before. (/s)
With all due respect, there’s an established discipline among activists that forbids communication with even the press as an individual, far less law enforcement. This in itself is a major and dangerous breach already, it’s not hypothetical.

Richest man in Georgia pushes anti trans, anti gay legislation. Richest man in Hungary is close to homophobe Viktor Orban. Weird how these keep getting presented as organic views springing endogenously from the working class
Richest man in England endorses “populist” views just like the richest man in America. Weirdest populism I’ve ever seen

I do not understand what makes people so confident that there's no boogeyman under the bed when the boogeyman is currently trying to murder his neighbors and take their house.

Of course there was blackmail. Of course some of his money (good chink prolly) was Russian money laundering.
Couple getting your first few hundred million in that way with then trading off the incredible insider information your network of “friends” sends to you, and there’s no huge mystery to solve as to Epstein’s wealth.

He didn’t need to blackmail. Real soft power is subtler than that.

It is a real indicator of where we are at in this moment that when everyone shows up and says "This is a Nazi bar, and we don't like Nazis" the response is "Well they *do* like a drink, and they are quite sad, and who are we to not take their money and give them a place to hang out?"

People are really missing that the reason why MAGA can retain and grow its people is because of their well funded reality tunnel.

Right now negative polarization is helping boost Democrats, this isn’t an infinite resource. You need to also build up the infrastructure to maintain and grow your base

Another way of silencing Ukrainians on the international stage is to kill their voice and/or careers.

Athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych was disqualified from competing at the Olympics for wearing a helmet with pictures of fellow Ukrainian athletes killed by Russia.

My question is, how do you know what you read is accurate/contains the relevant details without reading the source text anyway?
There’s stuff that, if it gets good enough (and in some of these specialized cases it’s a lot closer), there’s genuine value added by having a machine that can generate a summary in one minute of stuff it would take me five hours to read (and I’d do a bad job of it anyway).
