I will go further and say that people using the "r"-word are hoping that bringing it back opens the door to bringing back the "n"-word, and is strongly correlated with the people who want to carve off trans rights as a stepping stone to claw back gay rights in general
I assume anyone who says this word is probably okay with the n-word, too. Or, more charitably, doesn’t understand why they shouldn’t say it just that saying it would get them in a lot of trouble.

I'm not celebrating Bovino going under the bus because I think it means this is over.

I'm celebrating that we've entered the Shitheads Going Under the Bus era.

God I'm so pumped to trip more of them under it.

It could take a generation to recover the talent lost from federal science.

But it doesn't have to. We should be ready to scale up the Presidential Management Fellowship program to triple what it once was and rebuild U.S. capacity by 2030.
How many STEM Ph.D.s were lost from the U.S. federal government last year?

My colleagues @mghersher.bsky.social and @policyhound.bsky.social dug into a recent data release to find the answer. A @science.org exclusive.

Everything always leads to a supplement shop.

Civil Resistance is risky.

Some who take part will be injured. Some are (as we have seen) likely to die.

It works because the willingness to face that, and keep facing it, demonstrates a moral purpose which cannot be ignored.

It's why Quakers have a moral authority far greater than their numbers.
The people of Minnesota have executed one of the most impressive civil resistance campaigns I can remember:

- Organized a city wide general strike
- Maintained nonviolent discipline amidst violence
- Mobilized 10,000s in subzero temps to protest and watch ICE
- Flipped public opinion against ICE

Yeah. For those afraid that there won't be the political will among elected Dems to deal with this problem because not everyone is saying the same words right now, take it from anonymous ICE people: "yeah we're doomed".

Who takes notes and does the dishes for the revolution is a political matter. Look around you at your organizing meetings. If women are always the ones keeping minutes, assign a man. If women are always volunteering to get shit going, assign some men.
I think @sarahjeong.bsky.social said it's because they devalue women's labor and a LOT of this Scary Logistics stuff comes from people who don't understand that basically all of the civic life they enjoy is created with the help of free labor, largely by women.
Tho I will say, in his defense, he's not the first person to be confused by how quickly the romance authors & readers can whip up finely tuned logistics out of nothing. 😂

You could actually structure your moral code around the idea that law enforcement doesn't exist to execute people. You don't have to create perfect victim narratives, you can just refuse to accept that the state gets to kill people.

Cities are good and we should celebrate them.

Unironically, I think we should do stuff like put the Hollywood sign or Times Square on things like American passports. Make the iconography of urban areas part of our civic religion, as revered and beloved as amber waves of grain.
I hate how often people think / talk like "LA" (a place of tens of millions) isn't one of America's heartlands

It also betrays a fundamental lack of understanding about sensible risk assessment in organizing.

There are some organizing activities that are so sensitive that yeah, have that conversation offline and put your phone in a Faraday bag.

AND there's some stuff you can do in an unvetted group chat.
I think it is *incredibly* irresponsible for someone like @stonekettle.bsky.social, with a huge following, to claim that Signal is just as insecure as texts or other public social media.

This is a classic “making perfect the enemy of the good” error.

Never forget that the reason they are so convinced you’re all getting paid is that they are all getting paid.
The fact that every right winger with influence screams "who is paying for all of this" tells you exactly how awash in cash they all are, and how much they rely on that to keep their movement afloat.
James O'Keefe says he's never seen anything so organized as the anti-ICE movement, observers--he seems to think this term is code--everywhere he goes. Who is paying for it??? he demands to know. It's like he can't even imagine people caring for one another.
