Totally supportive of "distinct identity" meaning "we want our own vibe." Portland's individual neighborhoods have that. That's fine. But goddammit, just hook up to Tri-Met and have MAX go up to Washington. That would solve so many traffic issues. Stop fighting it.

Cool flag, though.

The city of Vancouver, Washington, has officially adopted a new flag, replacing its first flag that flew for three decades. The new flag is part of the city’s broader rebranding effort to give Vancouver a distinct identity from neighboring Portland.
Vancouver, Washington adopts new city flag
Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle called the new flag a “powerful reflection” of the city.

This is absurd. It's like thinking "Shit. Dante killed off Odysseus in the Inferno. How do we get him out of hell?"
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Absolutely. I love every part from the idea to tinkering with every sentence in the edit. I wish we all got paid more and publishing didn’t make me sad and angry more often than delighted, but writing stories is great actually and I am so excited that we (when we) get to do it.
Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.

Obviously this is ridiculous as a policy for employees but also as a customer my blanket preference from any people working in any store anywhere ever is “leave me the absolute fuck alone”

Smiling?? Eye contact?? TALKING TO ME???? Absolutely not!!!!
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

Looking forward to watching the GBBO finale tonight even though there is precisely zero suspense about who’s going to win it. Jasmine is probably the most dominant contestant the show has ever seen. It’s like watching a game with a 50 point lead.

I had a great time reviewing this book. It was about history almost wholly new to me and one that I wouldn't have ever thought of investigating for myself. I learned a lot and gained an appreciation for unfamiliar subject matter. That's always a good feeling.

Multiple people on the MAX this morning are watching video content without headphones. The sounds of TikTok and reels are just bleeding into public transit. What happened to us. How did we get here.

know the rules: every Democratic victory must be caveated, every Republican victory is a sign of What the People Want.
NGL "did this 15 point and downballot sweep win offer anything to learn for Democrats, I think not" vs "does this 2 point win offer anything for Republicans, absolutely!" is very funny to me.

Easy fast bread:

500 g flour
2 teaspoons yeast
2 teaspoons salt
3 teaspoons olive oil
1 and 1/3 cup water

Mix and knead. Let prove for an hour. Bake at 400 F for 30 mins. You have bread now. It’s really basic, but you made it.
