100% this and also I think these AI bros don’t get that there there are a ton of little micro ideas and decisions that are happening on the way from conception to finishing. It’s not all just follow through from the equivalent of a prompt. The steps in the process inform the whole concept.
& this nonsense that whomever has “the most ideas the fastest” is “the most creative” is ridic. There’s ppl with 1,000 ideas for paintings yet will never paint The Starry Night. An idea and $2.90 will get you a ride on the subway in NYC.

Artistry isn’t solely manufacturing ideas. It’s the process.

i have been radicalized into agreeing with the car speed governor idea michael expressed at the top of this thread more or less entirely on the basis of the totally garbage responses to it. everyone who complains should also lose 1mph per complaint.
It is not a "surveillance state" for your car to know that the speed limit is 25 miles per hour.

I am 100% pro Larian doing whatever pervert shit it wants and I can’t wait for another game where you can like, fuck a squid or whatever, but it really does further drive home the two-tier system of enforcement on storefronts. Bg3 contains basically everything small games get banned for

i also think you cant blame metroid fans for being kinda worried about the series' future considering Metroid hasn't had a stable dev team at Nintendo for like 20 years and Nintendo have spent much of that past 20 years being really confused about what people like about Metroid.

this is a stupid idea on its own but the idea of giving any new power to this administration at all, for any reason, is unconscionable

Bus deregulation was inflicted on the public with no democratic input or oversight, wrecking rural services and adding pointless complexity. Fares went up, ridership went down.

Even putting all that to one side, the whole proposition very plainly makes no sense.

This is fucking stupid and is meant to encourage censorship of minorities and LGBTQ specifically trans people online. But your senator won’t care about that. When you call them to appose this bullshit mention that it has the potential to clog the already slow judicial system with frivolous lawsuits

Sam Altman: hey I made a machine that stole literally all your stuff in order to make CSAM of your child actors, sometimes it encourages people to kill themselves

Disney: Holy shit here's a billion dollars

Altman: the machine loses more than that each week but thank you. Soon it will become god.

Which views the BBC considers unacceptably political in its presenters is particularly telling, isn't it?
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

It makes me sad on a fundamental level that British institutions that are ostensibly supposed to be liberal like the BBC, the Guardian and the Labour Party have been completely hollowed out and ruined by transphobia and naked prejudice

I was teaching in austin during this race, and another teacher in my cohort was dear friends with Jessica Cisneros, the woman running against him.

Pro abortion, pro-medicare for all, immigration attorney for RAICES. And the dems backed her conservative opponent.
Nancy Pelosi gave $4,000 to incumbent Henry Cuellar in December 2021, in his Democratic primary rematch vs. progressive Jessica Cisneros. Dem leaders circled and backed him.

The next month, FBI raided Cuellar's home.

He won the primary in June by only 289 votes. He was indicted on bribery in 2024.
Here Are the Congressional Democrats Who Donated to Anti-Choice Dem Henry Cuellar
Facing a strong primary challenge from pro-choice Jessica Cisneros, anti-abortion Democrat Henry Cuellar secured crucial campaign support from at least 18 Democratic incumbents.

It's still stupid to me that there's no rating inbetween Teen and Mature because games like Halo and Persona get the same rating as hyper-grimdark dungeon rpgs where characters have orgies in piles of human gore and that has never made sense to me.

trash decisions hellbent on preparing students for jobs in industries that will collapse before they graduate
Carnegie Mellon’s literature PhD is being liquidated in favor of “computation,” casualized labor, and AI.

That has profound ramifications for, students, faculty, and program alums like myself.

I wrote it about it (w/ Catherine Evans, a current PhD student).

I find this baffling because recent episode writing has required me to learn a bit about what UK grammar school education was like in the late 18c / early 19c and it was 1) only a tiny rarefied elite who went to school 2) they had to learn rote memorization of Virgil 3) they *hated* it

this is all very true, as is the fact that Lowtax was roughly 100x more responsible and concerned with the impact of his platform on society and the world than any social media CEO
Genuinely not unreasonable to say that Lowtax sucked so bad he fucked up the entire planet, and that most of the problems with the internet can be laid at the door of Something Awful
