i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Whanau, I did it. Unbelievably, I was born between 1968 and 2004. I couldn’t be sure I’d had 2 measles vaccinations (I definitely had one, it’s in my plunket book).
So, I had an MMR booster last week. If you, like me, aren’t sure, go and get one. They’re free and you can book via bookmyvaccine.

It really is extremely funny that no New Zealand media interviewed Helen Joyce, largely because TERF culture has so little mainstream influence here that nobody knows who the fuck she is.
Anyway, I believe she’s buggered off home now, leaving nobody the wiser as to who the fuck she is.

Tomorrow is the Fifth of November – but let’s forget Guy Fawkes and his actions against an arrogant Protestant king and instead look to our own history: the unlawful attack on Parihaka and, by extension, Māori sovereignty.

Read this and wrap your head around the way white institutions so often want marginalized people to present their stories in weak, hyper-personalized, depoliticized ways.
I am so upset.
Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdani’s inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/

To be asked to write about racism only to be racially aggressed in the editing process is a new level unlocked I have to say.
