One of the chief virtues of the book is that it’s nearly the only remaining form of media that isn’t constantly being interrupted by ads. Between the covers is the last place on earth where no one is trying to sell you shit, a place where you can still be a human being rather than a mark.

I genuinely wasn't confident that the Duffer Brothers could pull off a satisfactory ending to #StrangerThings, especially given that season five hasn't leant hard into character relationships like previous seasons.

I was wrong. Gloriously, thankfully wrong. That was a hell of a finale.

Well, I made it to Christmas Eve before I got Whammed - the furthest I've ever got. That'll teach me to join the work-crew for last-day drinks and lunch. 😄

Woolworths Helensville is absolutely wild, ran out of strawberries 2 days ago, folk are paying $15 for a punnet of cherries. I saw 2 women nearly get into it over the last rotisserie chicken. There was a splatted pavlova with road cones. A guy harrumphed me because I got declined for $15 cherries

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

An excellent review of this area's earthquake history and the 2016 Kaikoura quake.

Remember the escarpment that rose out of the sea and killed off crayfish, pāua and other sea life? That faulted at 12km *per second*. The noise must have been incredible.

The Kaikōura-North Canterbury region is a mountainous region in the northeast part of the South Island. The Alpine Fault splays into the Marlborough Fault System, including the Awatere, Clarence, and Hope Faults. These are all high slip rate faults capable of M 7+ earthquakes. 1/ 🧪

I once forgot to put brandy in the trifle. Had the bright idea of using a knife to cut through the cream, custard and sliced bananas to reach the sponge, then dribble the brandy/ginger ale mix down the blade to soak into the sponge. Repeat several times.

All I did was create hot-spots of alcohol.
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore
