My daughter's school has just sent us a letter from the board reaffirming its commitment to honouring Te Tiriti and respecting and working with Te Āti Awa, whose land the school sits on.

They say "while national policy settings may shift, our values, commitments and relationships do not have to".

So, is Rachin Ravindra going through a phase of being in his head and it's twisting his performance, or have opposition teams just worked him out?

The 2004 Inquiry into Police Conduct exposed a male-dominated culture marked by loyalty and secrecy. Then-commissioner Howard Broad pledged to "make the changes necessary to prevent this sort of behaviour ever happening again."
The problem for women in NZ has always been cis men & the lack of consequences for them if they commit SA/DV/abuse - especially men in positions of power at work or in sports.Their prospects, potential, promotions, reputations, businesses come 1st - it’s said out loud, it’s not even a secret. #nzpol
“The belief appears to be based on the proposition that Police are justified in not undertaking, or in curtailing, an investigation into a sexual assault allegation if it would jeopardise a suspect's work or promotion prospects “

A belief that’s entrenched in the police and in NZ. #nzpol

This is exactly why, just a couple of weeks ago, I finally bought myself a kite.

It's in the shape of a pterodactyl.
One thing people kind of tell you, but not really, about middle age:

One day you'll be like "oh [thing] looks fun but people will think I'm a loser" about a thing

And then you'll say. Wait a second.

Fuck 'em

The sun is shining and I got Wordle in one. Eagerly awaiting my third good thing today. 😊

(This does mean that I have to find a new starter word, however.)

Tomorrow is the Fifth of November – but let’s forget Guy Fawkes and his actions against an arrogant Protestant king and instead look to our own history: the unlawful attack on Parihaka and, by extension, Māori sovereignty.

Two doses of the MMR vaccine provide 99% of people with protection against measles. Check if you're fully immunised and if not, book with your usual health provider, or lots of pharmacies can do MMR vaccination. Or book online: bookmyvaccine.health.nz

It’s time to accept that New Zealand’s weather stinks
It’s a hard truth, but one we have to acknowledge if we're going to move forward as a country.

If that ain't an angry cloud, I don't know what is.

The Awakino Gorge: 249 crashes, 10 deaths and 137 injuries in the last 10 years. Oh, and it's Taranaki's only road link north (without dog-legging south to Stratford/Taumarunui or Palmerston North first.)
But it is very, very pretty.

NZTA urged to do more to improve resilience of Awakino Gorge on SH3
Massive slips on State Highway 3 road closed the road for days and it is still down to one lane in many places.

It wasn't all that long ago that I realised that 'AKA' and 'also known as' were THE SAME THING.
My spouse has this thing he calls “grasshopper moments” —from when he was a kid and he realized that grasshoppers are called that because they hop in the grass. I was today years old when I realized that quart is short for a quarter of a gallon. As in a quart of milk.
I have a PhD.
