Never trust a Tory or a Neoliberal

What we know about the coalition:

They will carry out their policies and the coalition agreement.
Everything else they say is lies.

Easy way to analyse any of their comments, media releases etc

Yep, wouldn't trust any of their assurances *at all*.

This is the same lot that made *election* promises about Dunedin hospital... oh wait, until they broke them. That their tax cuts were 'definitely costed'... oh wait, until forced to admit they weren't.

On and on their gaslighting goes.
I keep thinking about how Peters said the hīkoi was a waste of time because the bill isn't going to pass. But (a) I don't trust any of these arseholes to do what they say they will, and (b) if there was no pushback I'm sure Luxon et al would happily vote it through into law. #ToituTeTiriti #NZpol

I just love the feeling you get at this time of year in the British countryside that all of nature is waking up. Today I found this nest of falafels in my garden and it’s going to be so exciting watching them hatch.

The government yesterday passed a law that basically makes it possible for every NZ employee to be reclassified as a specified contractor, so they don’t get minimum wage, holidays, rights to fairness etc. Not only Uber Drivers. NZ First supported btw.

"It would be funny if it weren’t so depressing. Because while politicians are dragging their feet, hoping someone else will be in charge by the time New Zealand runs out of time and has to start making difficult decisions, climate change is already here."

NZ must reckon with the grim reality of our future: more storms, floods and heat.

This is a confronting situation. And yet, if we are to shield our communities, our infrastructure and our economy from the worst excesses of climate change, it is one we must confront.

Climate change is here. NZ isn't ready
Analysis: A serious approach to climate adaptation requires reckoning with the grim reality the future holds: more storms, more floods, more heat.

This means that we could do it even cheaper with grid-scale solar elsewhere (and spend the extra on batteries to really kill gas peaking), but putting it on industrial rooftops puts power right on top of demand, a significant co-benefit.
Good study by William & Peter Bisley: solar on 10% of NZ's available commercial & industrial roofs would cost $3b, earn $600m a year, and add 1.5 TWh of winter storage to the lakes – the same amount of energy the cracked LNG scheme is supposed to deliver.

The narorw definition of politics is the way societies organise themselves and rules they follow. The broader one is about power and resources. The main point of politics is to allocate that fairly because doing it unfairly leads to conflict and wars.
Luxon seems keen on the very narrow definition

Around the world, governments are demanding that research funding follow broader political priorities. They should be careful what they wish for.
