The Bovino demotion is seriously welcome news, but please keep up your calls to your Senators.

DO NOT let any of them point at his demotion as a sign of reform/justification to go ahead w/ supporting DHS.

Don't get distracted, friends. This doesn't change the fact that ICE has been used as a lawless, violent force, and it's continued existence is immoral. Tell your senators to vote accordingly. Defund. Dismantle. Prosecute.

On a related note, kidlit creators are still fighting book bans and the whole industry is still reeling from this. Follow (and join?) @authorsabb.bsky.social for information about how to help!
Anyone ever say to you when you're talking about banned books some version of, "Well if you want the book, just buy it!" The Freedom to Read Project broke down exactly why that argument doesn't stand up to scrutiny:
What the Library Is For and Why “Just Buy the Book” Gets It Exactly Backwards
Libraries exist to guarantee equal access to ideas; telling families to buy books themselves undermines equity, choice, trust, and opportunity.

I was shoveling during the announcements but there were SO MANY excellent selections at #alayma! In a hard time it’s so inspiring to see so many stories and voices recognized.

I keep thinking about this quote from WINTER WHITE and what safety actually means. If the people who claim to protect you are also the ones who hurt you, what kind of protection is that? Even if you're safe now, how long will it be before they find a reason to hurt you?

Two things you can do RIGHT NOW, like literally as you read this:

1) Call your reps and leave voice mails telling them NO DHS FUNDING and ABOLISH ICE and they better do it for Liam.

2) Donate what you can for www.standwithminnesota.com (a list of orgs, campaigns, and funds on the ground)

If you have Dem reps, call them. Do it now. House votes on DHS funding tomorrow.

No decent human would support funding ICE. It is impossible to both be a good person and support ICE. It is not a difficult decision. It’s horrifying that we need to convince anyone of this. But we do. So please call.
So the House is going to vote TOMORROW on the DHS funding bill that includes funding for ICE.

There's a real chance we can get Dems to vote NO on any bill with ICE funding to sink it.

Once it goes to the Senate we likely lose this chance.

24 hours. Go.

Step 3: BE PATIENT! They've got a lot going on so don't be weird if it takes 'em awhile to get your order to you.

Of course, this won't really solve the problem, but it will hopefully make it a little easier to endure.
