My husband is a playwright and he’s in rehearsal right now. His director and dramaturg are both moms with young kids.

Today, while our spouses were in rehearsal, their husbands came over so their kids could play with mine.

Bodo had to go to the vet today and, not to brag, but the vet and the vet tech both said he was the best boy in the whole world.

OH MY GOD THIS
And I'm just trying hard not to think about how much of this money could have been applied to more diverse authors... and way better books. 🫠

Bottom line. Publishing? Please stop wasting money on people like Nuzzi (and Calloway) and nurture diverse authors for the longer term. Please?

Kirkus had such great things to say about WINTER WHITE! I'm especially proud of "Cardi handles the novel’s darker themes with aplomb, navigating domestic abuse and drug addiction with sensitivity and realism." I want WINTER WHITE to be for readers like Pia, who need a safe place to see hope.

For people who think book banning isn't a big deal because even if they're not available in libraries and schools, you can still buy them--this is an elitist argument. Most kids ONLY have access to books from their library. Libraries ensure info access for all. Libraries are vital in democracies.
It's not a badge of honor when books get banned. It stinks for everyone. For the book creators, who worked hard to create something special that now won't be shared. The kids who miss out. The librarians and teachers who are treated like criminals. And taxpayers who have to pay for this nonsense.

I had the good fortune to hear Gwendolyn Brooks read in our shared hometown of Chicago. An absolute American treasure as a writer and human being.
We don't read her work enough. It is subtle and lovely and speaks to the magic and pain and triumph of everyday life. We are so lucky to have her work.

Today is the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest. Six myths: 1) She wasn't old or tired. 42 years old that day, she had a "life history of being rebellious" & had spent two decades helping to turn the Montgomery NAACP into a more activist branch alongside ED Nixon and Johnnie Carr.
