steam is apparently allowing "this game had AI in it that it didn't disclose" as a valid return statement, so if you or anyone you know actually paid $70 for slop, get that money back

You could literally do a horror anthology based on the different ways this can go wrong.

AI dead mom escapes into your TV, and your digital fridge, and your pacemaker.
What if AI dead mom ends up neglected just like one of those digital picture frames. Sold at a digital goodwill for $2.50.

“Re ‘There are a lot of people on your side who will be in the Epstein Files too!’: No there aren't, my side is the ‘People Who Don't Fuck Children’ side, anyone not on this side can get all the way into the bin, what side are YOU on, exactly?” — John Scalzi

I haven’t an opinion on the Guillermo Del Toro film yet as I haven’t watched it, but go further into this thread and it lays bare a lot of what it is to deal with motherhood in art and this is obviously right up my street…
Time for GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S FRANKENSTEIN DISCOURSE!

I keep seeing people worry about whether del Toro properly did justice to Mary Shelley. And I have to ask: why is that del Toro's job more than anyone else's?

And also, didn't he?

And also, how could he? He's not a mother. 1/

I think this is a mistake a lot of people make. It's definitely the mistake the Labour Party makes, over and over. Don't try and win over the people who hate you, do right by the people who love you and want to believe in you.
Gary Lineker: "This is the mistake the BBC makes. The BBC tries to appease the people that hate the BBC, rather than worrying about the people that love the BBC."

Amazon struggling with Bond continuity is baffling. How clean do they think James Bond continuity is?

In Casino Royale, despite clearly being set in the modern day (decades after the first Bond film), we're told that Bond has only just earned his 00 rank and this is his first assignment.

9/10 times when you read something that sounds utterly ridiculous in naval fiction and think the authir is being a bit silly really it will turn out Thomas Cochrane actually did it and the version in the book has been TONED DOWN.
I love the Royal Navy, but the lore is too disjointed and difficult for modern audiences to swallow. In retrospect it lost all believability when the producers allowed Lord Thomas Cochrane to survive all sorts of silly and ridiculous stunts.

Just thinking about how South Park season one ended on a cliffhanger about who Cartman’s dad was, and instead of answering it, the next episode was a Terrance And Philip special called Not Without My Anus. Could do that.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

The “canonical” story how Rosalind Franklin got wronged by Watson and Crick inadvertently makes her look far less scientifically competent than she was (“She did not realize the significance of her own data!”). This article offers a much more nuanced account of what happened.
What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.

Aaaaand here's the UK version. Gone for less Tim Burton more a classic 1930s feel which I also love and fits the book really well as it's a whodunnit.

I love them both.

My hot take is that all villains are tragic villains, if we're given sufficient access to their interiority & backstory. Redemption arcs & empathy with villains aren't about excusing harm - on the contrary, acknowledging humanity is to emphasise our constant, ongoing capacity to *choose otherwise*.
