Short, rumpled Scotsman. Has a terrible pain in all the diodes down his left hand side.
Not on social media as much as he used to be but if he is, it will be occasional writing and a lot of stupid bollocks.

It occurs to me that with Cow Tools and The Thagomizer coming true, what other Farside cartoons should we worry about? And will it feature aliens?
Gary Larson: In my cartoon I invented Cow Tools as a cautionary tale

Cows: At long last, we have created the Cow Tools from classic newspaper comic Cow Tools

Got scunnered by the news today, so just powered through to the end of this.
Dark is such a good series. Writing, acting, direction, production, it all works together to produce something proper good I could go on about in spoilery depth for hours.
If you've not seen it, I do recommend.
Reached a point in series two where make-up decisions in series one are explained.
So, so well constructed.
Taken a notion to rewatch Dark.
The first couple of episodes are as gripping as first time around, even though I know where it's going. If anything, it's more interesting spotting hints.
It does seem to be as well constructed as I remember.

Having sat through yet another corporate "Everything will include AI" messaging session yesterday, sadly plenty of the heid bams are still all in on the magic word machine. But nice to know they'll all have to pretend it didn't happen in a few years time,
“One notable MIT study found that 95 percent of companies that integrated AI saw zero meaningful growth in revenue. For coding tasks, one of AI’s most widely hyped applications, another study showed that programmers who used AI coding tools actually became slower at their jobs.”
AI Completely Failing to Boost Productivity, Says Top Analyst
AI may or may not excel at a lot of things, but from an economic standpoint, it's definitely not making us more productive.

So much of the news at the moment is simultaneously utterly idiotic and scary as fuck but making Americans pay three times as much for Champagne because France isn't convinced the US is genuinely interested in what's best for Gaza is stratospheric bonkerness.

Used to adore this place as a student. Felt like I'd walked into Blade Runner and where I learned to use chopsticks.
The Canton Express in Glasgow. Walking distance from my flat, open until 5am most nights, huge amount of amazing food for not much money. I lived off their chicken in black bean sauce and crispy pork with gravy for years. Heartbroken when I went there one night and it had closed with no warning

please tell me about your favorite lost restaurant (closed for at least 5 years, like I really want you to go back into the vault), why you loved it and what you ate there

Okay, here's the story of George de Hevesy vs the Nazis! I really do love telling this story.

First, some background: George de Hevesy was a Hungarian-Jewish chemist, but he spent most of his career post-1920 attached to the Niels Bohr institute at the University of Copenhagen, in Denmark. (1/n)

Very much a sign of the shittiness of the times that an old-skool Tory spat actually fills me with cheer.
It's a warm nostalgic glow for nicer times when that sort of thing mattered in the slightest.
💥Huge news in Tory/ Reform land

Robert Jenrick has been sacked from shadow cabinet and suspended from Conservative party after Kemi Badenoch said she was presented with “irrefutable evidence” he was planning.

And this is why, rather than look at the thing I was doing yesterday, I came out with an entirely different thing about a scarecrow today.
It's amazing what you can write when you're procrastinating about other writing.
If you don't write a story about the day you ran away to become a scarecrow I'll be very disappointed with you!
