According to Israel's public broadcast news, the talks between the Israeli state and Syria on a new armistice agreement have reached a dead end because Israel is insisting only on withdrawing its occupation army out of southern Syria in exchange for recognition of Israel + control of Golan Heights.

Somewhere along the way over the past few decades, a lot of the most temperamentally pro-Israel people have convinced themselves that Israel's public image has no relationship to the actually existing behavior of the Israeli state. This is basically. for example, Hillary Clinton's position.

The broad vibe shift against an organization like AIPAC is good overall and indicates something serious in the underlying direction of the Democratic base but I think, and have for a long time now thought, it was always a bit too simplistic to chalk up the pro-Israel consensus *to* AIPAC et al.

Torn between my general opposition to the Saudi state's existence and corruption writ large and my pleasure at seeing the meltdown that a subsection of the Blob is having over Israel not possessing a veto over US foreign policy vis a vis the rest of the region
This comes hours, weeks and months after multiple business deals were announced between the Saudi global wealth fund and Trump Org worth several billion dollars. The Saudis are one of the Trump family’s biggest business partners.

In the vast of conversations that I have with the least-engaged on Palestine, whether on a campus or in workplace or on the street, people hear the term military occupation and think of it merely as a temporary measure. I tell them it's lasted longer than my father's entire life and they are shocked
It is interesting that Wu thinks that the intl recognized principle of military occupation makes Israel look worse to the average American, to my mind it actually obscures the depth of Israeli colonization in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem because occupation is nominally temporary.

Remarkable how resilient this line about "symbolic deliveries of food" has become vis a vis criticism of the Sumud Flotilla. The point of the Flotilla is to breach the blockade in the 1st place, to then enable the repetition of this breach, and to compel international pressure to render it obsolete.

The next Democratic admin will be under enormous institutional pressure to hire these very same freaks who have failed at everything they've ever done and it will be very important to make sure they don't get hired and that the next nominee isn't someone who is friends with them

Imagine if China published an article "The Case for Toppling Trump"

What would that do to general American sentiment toward Trump?

How might that affect the opposition's ability to position itself?

Has there ever been a country where the vast majority of the people were in favor of being invaded?

Whereas some people are just bigoted and do shallow conspiracism to explain this it's actually rather simple— those in the foreign policy establishment like each other and like the same five bad ideas they constantly give each other. If Democrats ever want to evolve they need to find alternative.
A simple way to determine if someone knows what they're talking about is to ask them:

Who has praised Trump's diplomacy?

Anthony Blinken, or Rashida Tlaib?
Brett McGurk, or Ilhan Omar?
Jack Lew, or Zohran Mamdani?
As one of the 3 dozen people on here who actually pay attention to this issue and MENA more broadly as a job it is still very amusing to see people think it's the left who loves this plan. The most voracious defenders of it are Blob careerists or their orbiters— Blinken, McGurk, Lindsey Graham, etc.
