Another all too common instance of the foreign press getting this exactly right while US news media spins up stupid hypotheticals which will never be fulfilled. Saudi's demand of Israel is extremely minimalistic and Israel won't even concede to it, so why would normalization move forward?

Frankly the nefariousness has little to do with money at all and much more to do with the way lobbying works interpersonally. There are clearly people in the pro Israel lobby who should register as foreign agents bc they take advice or collaborate with foreign officials. That's not a campaign thing.

Also should be noted that part of the problem is merely the discrepancy in the application of the existing law. People oft will say that there is lobbying via Turkey, Egypt, et al. True but also these people do actually on occasion get indicted or stripped or clearances or admonished.

The extent to which people in FDD, WINEP, JINSA just rotate people in and out of government and advisory roles for Israeli cabinets is pretty atrocious. True of AIPAC true with people like Martin Indyk who was a senior official there and also an ambassador to Israel at one point, but not same pace.

Also AIPAC is technically not the worst offender even in the pro Israel lobby. WINEP and FDD are far worse and should very clearly be registered under the lobbying for a foreign state laws.

As a Pali I do think the distinction matters linguistically to some extent, because it is about the extent to which a US organization is overtly interacting with a foreign government, but yeah also a lot of selectivity outrage makes it pretty clearly about something else.
With the number of antisemitic canards that have become mainstrean discourse, I've lost my patience for fellow Jews clutching their pearls and trying to elevate the salience of " Calling it a 'foreign lobby' is antisemitic. They're 'a lobby in support of a foreign government.'"
And, as we unfortunately demonstrated today, it’s incredibly easy to inadvertently promote anti-Semitic dogwhistles, even when attempting to engage in principled leftism. As such, we want to apologize specifically to Jewish folks for failing to receive earlier critiques from their community.
