Absolutely insane that my life has become texting with local church pastors to try and find a safe place to hold an emergency meeting for parents at my kid’s’ preschool to figure out how to respond to the federal government kidnapping neighbors.

Appealing to legality is a dead end. Everything the state does is "legal", anything that we do is "illegal"
Rep. Angie Craig: "We were told because this facility is being funding by the 'Big Beautiful Bill,' not the congressional appropriations act, that we would not be allowed to enter the facility. That's complete nonsense ... I informed them they were violating the law. They said they didn't care."

What this administration is doing is accelerating and building on what already existed. This is disorienting, I know. We have to do what we can to protect each other locally while we also seriously address the foundational issues. This country has to disempower policing. I hope people understand now

whats missing from all the coverage is that the president is using the military to harass, brutalize and punish areas of the country that didnt vote for him

Thank you TCW for this instant classic of Harper’s Letter sophistry, explaining that the categories "right" & "left" are unhelpful in understanding a campaign of kidnappings & assassinations undertaken by an ultra-right wing secret police force at the behest of an ultra-right wing political regime

Three Members of Congress showed up to inspect the actions of federal officers in their state and the federal officers drew their weapons?
JUST NOW: Huge mass of agents in a standoff, weapons drawn as Reps. Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, and Kelly Morrison attempt to conduct congressional oversight at the Whipple Building, which has been HQ for thousands of ICE agents.

I cannot express how incredibly vapid it is for @chatterton.bsky.social to be essentially resorting to civility discourse when the thing we are talking about is an armed agent of the state shooting a woman to death in broad daylight, confident that his thug regime will protect him from justice.

not sure how you can expect to have any credibility if your response to murder by federal agents is arresting protestors and telling them the police are on their side. the democrats like to think their role is to be a heat sink for liberal and leftist anger but eventually that's gonna stop working

Excellent work everyone: if we redouble our efforts, I’m sure we could get the statutory Resigned In Disgrace period for members of our irremovable, permanent ruling class down to less than two months.

I’m not at all surprised that loads of Iranians have had enough of their horrible government, and want rid of it. I’m having a much harder time believing that the people cry out with yearning for the oddball son of the previous king.

I suppose it was all fun and games in the 2020s, and was a useful environment to pitch and sell an anti-identity politics book, but there's really no other way to read what's currently happening as anything other than the logical next steps of the culture wars
There is a growing and palpable bloodlust and desire to see ideological opponents quite literally eradicated that should give us all extreme pause. It’s been a long time since the most meaningful divide in American political and cultural life was between “left” and “right.” 1/2

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

Then he knocks her phone out of her hand

Some journalists would be confused by this point
This article simply parrots DHS when it comes to whether you can post videos or photos online: "the DHS says posting videos and photos of agents online is harassment that threatens their safety." But that's obviously bullshit, as THE FEATURED IMAGE IS OF AGENTS!

It's not an excuse, but it is worth remembering that mayors in most cities very much do not have control over their police departments if the mayor doesn't like something the cops want to do, a phenomenon that would be a red alert civ-mil alarm with the military but something we all accept w/cops

WSJ investigation: In the past 6 months ICE agents have fired at vehicles 13 times, leading to:

* 8 people shot
* 5 of which were U.S. citizens
* 2 died
* no victims drew a weapon

The playbook: Agents box in a vehicle, block attempts to flee, then fire

Just a reminder: propaganda works by pervasive repetition, not logical consistency
I think I’ve mentioned it before but discovering Jacques Ellul’s writing on propaganda as the creation of a totalizing information space where a message is reflected in all mediums and all forms to imply unassailability, as opposed to just “biased messages” was really what clicked for me

You and I might think it’s bad that Britain has fucked it up so badly that we’re now having to beg for military assistance from our masters, who are saying openly that they regard Europe as a land of multi-culti lib woofters whose governments need to be replaced with pipe-hitting fascists. But, no!
You would think that e.g. very obviously assisting a genocide would be at least somewhat problematic but - like everything else here - that comes under the category “sucking up to the White House no matter how horrific it gets”, and is thus excellent.

You might think historically, had government ministers been enthusiastic members of groups and speakers at events “Labour Friends of The RSF”, “Labour Best Mates Of Rwanda” or “Labour Loves Greater Serbia”, then that might have incurred criticism or been problematic. Seems to be fine now, though.
