I'm mostly concerned about the additional VMT imparted by the cost and ease of its use, and the shift in infrastructure investment and development encouraged by that change. I'm not sure the city is up to managing that challenge, let alone the state.

In a statement to BikePortland this morning, Councilor Mitch Green called a bill in the legislature that aims to preempt local regulation of robotaxis, "appalling."

I'm at a legislative town hall,
and Sen. Frederick is still gung ho about IBR despite the ballooning costs. Rep. Sanchez voted for bonding for the project but supposedly wasn't happy about it. 🙄

ODOT’s budget is fucked. They could either stop spending hundreds of millions on a doomed freeway expansion that is billions of dollars away from completion or raid the $15m a year program for sidewalks near elementary schools. Guess which Dems are choosing #orpol

ICE must be abolished. The work of our time is to tear down the system that built it and remake it into one that embraces and designs systems that include all people from all places. This work will be done, because the alternative is unbearable.

Have you called your reps yet?
Candid answer - as someone who handled constituent affairs calls for years - while they’re not checking the phone right now, the urgency of the moment is important.

Show them you care enough to make the weekend call, and be counted that way. Staffers will clock and report this upstream.
Is there actually a benefit to leaving a VM now vs getting a staffer on Monday? Can do both but just curious

Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.

Meanwhile, in Oregon (which also had a rare, hard to get congestion pricing permit from feds) ODOT failed so hard at standing up the pgm that the governor had it banned it in statute.

High taxes are a scapegoat for OR's stagnation: the real problem is bad governance and the uncertainty it begets.

Centrist Dems have enabled austerity by ceding ground to reactionaries in the state legislature, and we're worse off for it. If you have a plan to win and a vision for a budget that invests in our communities by actually taxing those with the ability to pay, then let's talk about your campaign.

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...
