takes a very particular form of audacity to propose to redirect funding from the nation's greatest example of a municipal green new deal - a program approved by 65% of the city's voters! - and use that money to instead hire four hundred more cops

Ballot Initiative Will Seek to Reroute 25% of Climate Tax Revenues to Hiring Police
A citizen ballot initiative backed by the Portland Police Association will seek to reroute 25% of revenues from the Portland Clean Energy Fund tax to fund the hiring of 400 additional police officers.

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Kinda crazy that Portland's noise code explicitly bans leaf blowers louder than 65-70 dB (which excludes most gas-powered ones), but no one enforces it (not to mention Parks employees using the extra-loud ones).

TriMet was one of the pioneers of dense transit-oriented development with the construction of Orenco Station in the 1990s.

Since then? Crickets. We need to pass something like this in Oregon to densify land use around MAX stations ASAP.
Good morning!

Last night, Illinois’ legislature passed a law, SB2111, which will fund a major expansion of service for the Chicago region’s transit systems, thanks to new revenue sources.

The law also takes a major step forward in coordination between agencies.
Statement from the RTA: "The passage of SB2111 is a landmark moment for public transit in Illinois."

I can accept that Mayor Wilson feels he has a public mandate to enforce a camping ban, even if I think it’s a waste of money.

But it’d just be madness for the city to lose sight of a long-term vision for housing everyone, which has been Hisserich’s main focus
Shake-up at the Portland Housing Bureau: Mayor Wilson put director Helmi Hisserich, an "unparalleled expert" on social housing, on leave with little explanation Thursday. She has been in the role since early 2024.

The state, the city, the county, the feds, the facilities, the consumers ...

What do we want? "MOVE THE HUB!"
When do we want it? "BEFORE THE QUAKE!"
This is a wicked hard problem & even the best proposals coming from the city & county are simply trying to mitigate the worst effects of a major disaster.

To really fix the problem the state needs to move the hub.
So I'm starting to put together my CEI Hub comments (as everyone should be doing this week) and I gotta say, even the strongest of the proposed alternatives seems really weak to me. A quick🧵 1/5

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

Easy way to make a difference!
Everything is stupid and dangerous right now, *but* we have an opportunity to make a least one thing less stupid and dangerous.

Please submit a comment to the PDX city planners asking them to prevent any further expansion of liquid fuel storage at the CEI Hub and mandate a fuel drawdown.

We have exited a long period of peace and entered into a struggle not unlike war, in which all the old certainties have gone malleable and the future of the republic is at stake.

No troops in Portland
September 29, 2025 at 12:12 AM
This letter assumes that we can convince Trump not to send troops (Violent crime is down! Goons with guns are bad for business!). To be effective, we have to raise the political and logistical cost of a troop deployment using every peaceful avenue.

Thank you @senkhanhpham.bsky.social for speaking up for transit and Oregonians who don't drive in the OR legislature.
This week, I voted to oppose the -18 Amendment to HB 3991 in the Joint Special Session Committee on Transportation Funding. I vow as a legislator to continue to fight for long term stable funding for this critical social service that serves the 1 in 4 Oregonians who can't or don't drive. #orleg

Occurs to me that Trump's entire regime consolidation strategy is to persuade everyone through displays of force that the regime is already consolidated and there's no point in resisting. Which I don't think will work, but also shows how important public acts of noncompliance are.
