it's kind of funny how genuinely believing that almost everyone is damned can lead to a kind of radical acceptance. being the wrong kind of Presbyterian sends you to hell (unless God exercises His grace in a way which is beyond His explicit commitments), so why hate gay people any more than them?
my sister is an extremely theologically conservative evangelical who is nonetheless consistently and seriously opposed to Trump and what Orthodox Jews in the same position are going through right now is ten times as hard

Never let anyone tell you this was unforeseeable. I was a teenager when DHS was created and I remember the memes (though we didn’t call them that yet) about “homeland security” being a Nazi term. Plenty of people knew at the time that DHS was a bad, dangerous, and unamerican idea.
I voted against the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security and I was pleased to speak with Ta-Nehisi Coates @VanityFair about the mood surrounding that debate.

Never let anyone tell you this was unforeseeable. I was a teenager when DHS was created and I remember the memes (though we didn’t call them that yet) about “homeland security” being a Nazi term. Plenty of people knew at the time that DHS was a bad, dangerous, and unamerican idea.

The civil rights museum in Greensboro has a room filled with mugshots of college students and activists arrested during civil rights protests. None of the people DHS is trying to shame will feel anything other than proud of themselves.
I'm starting to think the Trumpist mastery of propaganda is failing them. The DHS agents posing this way makes it look like they're ashamed of themselves.
