I'll try to make this the last time I tout my little project, but I wrote about our "Crockpot & Criterion" for the @kansascity.com opinion newsletter:

Can’t help but think some people would love for this to all be about journalism standards and best practices and not, say, the rendition of human beings to some medieval dungeon without due process.

Home insurance is going up because climate change is making weather disasters far more likely.
Trump: "We're also going meet with other insurance companies because under Biden the insurance rates have gone through the roof. Auto insurance, home insurance -- I mean, insurance companies are making far may than they are entitled to make. So we're gonna be doing that."

My latest (sorry, gift links aren't working): The Chiefs are moving from Missouri to Kansas. Clark Hunt is going to make more money and Kansas might shed some of its inferiority complex, but for fans: Nothing important is changing. #ksleg #mogov www.kansascity.com/opinion/read...

Which, not incidentally, is pretty fascist!
“Trump has for years advocated for revamping America’s fleet of warships, which he has said are “terrible-looking” and covered in rust.”

Aesthetics are a through line in POTUS’s approach to the U.S. military from boat bombing to domestic troop deployments to the composition of the Navy.

In America, no one is above the law, and the immunity that public officials need to do their jobs is not a get-out-of-jail-free card for their nonofficial acts.

Why is battleship in scare quotes?
President Trump will announce on Monday a new type of large warship he is calling “battleships,” marking a step toward achieving the president’s vision for a new “Golden Fleet.”

If we depart from the obvious racism inherent in the "heritage American" designation, it's also the case that such folks want to celebrate their ancestors but never reflect on their shortcomings and there's something a bit sociopathic about that.
1. So I have a few thoughts on "heritage Americans," Nathanial Hawthorne, witch-hunting, Thomas Pynchon, Calvinism, strange feuds, the Daughters of the American Revolution, FDR, the moral responsibilities of nationalism & (I guess) Jack Kirby.

That’s more than they want to give Americans in tariff rebate checks.
Kristi Noem makes an announcement on Fox & Friends: "We are saying that if you voluntarily want to go home now to your country, if you're in the US illegally, we'll give you $3,000 through the holidays to send you home. We'll buy you a ticket, give you $3,000 to go home."
