TIL Maine didn't let Native Americans vote until 1954. This Silver Star recipient was told he couldn't vote after he showed up in uniform.

Saw The Running Man tonight. It’s based on a 1982 book that envisions reality TV producers taking over the US and sending their masked goons to terrorize American cities—which probably sounded implausible at the time.

Right wingers huffing so much racism paint that they don't even get that there's a non-European NATO member already and also that non-European is a meaningless term
I mean this is straight up white supremacy:

Pope Hat 🧵.
@kenwhite.bsky.social is calling bullshit on the current Supreme Court.

And he’s right. We do not have any reason to presume good faith arguments by the conservative justices. They aren’t acting in good faith.

When progressives gain power, they will need to make reforms.
/8 Fight, scorn, defy, and obstruct them, because they are the unapologetic forces of ignorance, bigotry, and thuggery.

There are so many people living lives of quiet dignity despite horrific medical news or poverty or tragedy where every day they still wake up and try to be good people in the world even as the world pushes against them and it makes me even angrier at the absolute shitheads that rule over things

You know what would help Trump's approval numbers? If he flew around the country doing rallies again. That would do it.

we're at a place where the vast majority of ppl in the US hate the Trump admin, he is losing elections regularly, there is much more resistance from other Rs, from the media, from other institutions.

and yet, Trump still commits atrocities every day.

They want us to be appalled, because caring about rules of war and human lives and the law all mark us out as inferior to them in their sick worldview.
They’re killing people as a twitter joke. It’s depraved. Can’t let yourself lose the capacity to be appalled and disgusted and outraged by this.

starmer somehow concluded from a decade of tory wins and then a single, catastrophic loss that the tories were popular but their big problem is that they were not good at being tories
Biden was generally bad in ways he was obviously going to be bad on, & he made some pretty admirable attempts to make the best of his slim majorities in congress, whereas Starmer came to power with a respectable majority, but has opted to fritter it all away in baffling & evil ways

I was told by a reporter in October that the White House was looking to prosecute me because I stood against their inhumane agenda.

Days later, they did exactly that.

A significant legal battle appears to be brewing in the case of six people facing federal charges tied to protests outside an immigration facility in Broadview.

the reason why those "the left made me do ___" things ring so hollow is that Trump has been, since 2015, the primary actor in US politics. everything, in some shape or form, has been a reaction to his assault on the sanctity of the US constitutional order
2020-2021 was a particularly bad time but as long as Trump kept upping the ante the polarization was going to happen anyway

Obvious statement is obvious, but Trump renaming the Institute of Peace after himself is as authoritarian as you can get.
The renamed ‘Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace’ hosts first event

Yeah, a House member needs to send up that impeachment flag. This is illegal, immoral, dangerous behavior — that is also likely unconstitutional as well.

“What’s your plan for the Court?” is the only question that matters for 2028 Democratic hopefuls, because if they don’t, the Republican Super Legislature is hatcheting their agenda before it can get off the ground.
#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three democratic appointees, #SCOTUS puts Texas's new House maps back into effect for (and, presumably, through) the 2026 midterms.

The three Democratic appointees, in an opinion by Justice Kagan, dissent.

I'll post the ruling shortly.

It’s just ad hoc rule-making to benefit Republicans and their billionaire owners.

That’s the Roberts Court.

There is no coherent legal theory that can square its rulings. There are no ethical standards.

It’s corrupt and illegitimate. And it must be dismantled.
According to this Supreme Court:

❌ Using race conscious admissions in college to give minorities a fair shot

✅ Using race to profile people on the street to detain for immigration sweeps

✅ Using race to disenfranchise minorities in elecciones

The only consistency is white supremacy.
