I usually describe the scent as 'the olfactory equivalent of someone blaring an off-key trombone in your ear until you go deaf in self-defense'. I am very familiar with skunk scent, thanks to a job I had once where skunks kept spraying the intake for our air con so the whole lab REEKED.
