#fosta-sesta
i mean, the assholes who pushed SESTA/FOSTA (and are currently pushing KOSA and 230 repeal) deserve a good portion of the blame but ... yeah
This is the guy who nerfed Tumblr’s usage with the porn ban btw.

LISTEN TO SEX WORKERS!!! :)))) frontpageconfidential.com/kamala-harri...

kosa has it's roots in fosta/sesta. fosta/sesta set us on this dipshit fucking track.

it's not popular, but a lot of regressive governments around the world that are implementing laws like FOSTA-SESTA are not popular either

With all love to Chris:
This is not about payment processors. It’s about the legal environment, about the Online Safety Act and the Digital Services Act, the legacy of FOSTA-SESTA, bills like KOSA and more.
It’s not a conspiracy, it’s age-verification lobbies and politics
I really wish we had a well funded, power critical fourth estate interested in investigating the source of this clearly coordinated effort by payment processors.

Like, we keep seeing the impact of it, but I really want to know the "who" and the "why" beyond nebulous surveillance/puritanism forces.

also if you wanna know why i am, forever, and always, on the fuck kamala train (even tho yes, i did begrudingly fucking vote for her.)
look up fosta/sesta which she cosponsored. she's lauded as "taking down backpage"

you want to see where this censorship "save the kids" bullshit started?
February 9, 2026 at 5:13 PM
No it *would* mass censor the internet and usher in an AI surveillance hellscape. With all due respect it doesn’t sound like you’re super knowledgeable on this! Watch my video where I break it down. I’ve been reporting on this exact legal effort for almost 9 years since FOSTA SESTA

I do recognize that tumblr was basically caving to both pressures from apple *and* FOSTA-SESTA, so that situation is technically more complex.

But also tumblr search has *never* worked properly, and oh was the site dysfunctional in all sorts of ridiculous ways. Oh yeah, and the nazis.

Want to hear about a law from one country that *really* suppressed lawful speech about sex worldwide?

SESTA/FOSTA. The 2018 U.S. law that caused global changes in platforms' tolerance for erotica, health information, sex worker support tools, and more.
The @nytimes.com coverage of France's Grok investigation casts it as part of a conflict between U.S. & European speech rules. That's true only if you buy Elon's version.

This is a case about CSAM and NCII. Those are crimes in France, and crimes in the U.S. There's no transatlantic divide here. 1/

I hate her because she is responsible for a great deal of hassle to SWs specifically: she was one of the architects of FOSTA/SESTA, which also happens to be one of the death knells for free and open speech on the internet because it added an exception to Section 230

I gave a main stage talk at DEFCON in 2018 about SESTA/FOSTA & sex workers rights so there are non-trivial odds that Epstein attended. He didn’t reach out to me but his gilded world crumbled not long after so this will be a weird “maybe” that underscores my dedication to condemning sexual violence.
So 2018 now and Vincenzo Iozzo is arranging DEFCON badges for Jeffrey Epstein.

I know so many legal sex workers whose bank accounts were closed because of SESTA/FOSTA, but CSAM on twitter is somehow totes groovy.

as much as you can. These will start hitting like a Mac truck barreling down the highway once it starts going. They wasted no time with SESTA-FOSTA at the end of the last decade.

The year is 2042.

I am Mama Goddess arrested for being a cult leader as my cultists sob.

In my testimony, I go back to FOSTA/SESTA in 2017 that started the push for
Pron bans & bad internet censorship bills which in turn pushed me from honest sworker into wellness grifter in 2028.
January 29, 2026 at 2:54 PM
and i’m sure this all also goes back to sesta/fosta as well
January 29, 2026 at 10:27 AM
FOSTA/SESTA pushed so many sex workers back into the dark and the amount of trafficking and murder that it has directly caused is terrifying.
Oh: FOSTA/SESTA?

Passed 388-25 in the house, 97-2 in the senate. Ubiquitous digital surveillance of sexworkers was *overwhelmingly* bipartisan.

The democrats didn't give a single shit about that apparatus possibly being expanded to include pregnant people.

SESTA & FOSTA first threatened to erode Section 230 over a decade ago.

Elizabeth Warren is one of the cosponsors of the Safe Sex Worker Study Act, which is a great bill that would study the harm done by SESTA/FOSTA.

KOSA raises the same censorship issues as SESTA/FOSTA.

So @warren.senate.gov gets it, she just doesn't care.

Warren has been openly anti-SWer for years now. She and Bernie both backed FOSTA-SESTA, even if the latter tepidly walked his support back.

There are no good Dems when it comes to this topic. You really do have to hammer all of them.
"Warren is well known in MA's LGBTQ community for showing up at Pride events and dancing around in a feather boa. But when her queer and trans constituents asked her to meet with us about legislation that could harm the most vulnerable members of our community, she wouldn’t even look us in the eye."
It appears that some members of the Democratic Party are supporting KOSA.

The act purports to be about protecting children, but it could weaponize Trump's FTC to target LGBTQ+ content on the internet.

Evan Greer writes for EITM in this latest op-ed.

Loved the piece!

Also, I have a small suggestion that I think would aid connecting some dots, but perhaps including the acronym for "FOSTA/SESTA" as a "also commonly referred to as…"

Just as a communication tool, because a lot of the advocacy around it back then and even now uses that abbreviation
January 7, 2026 at 1:08 AM
all of the "concerns" that have gone into passing SESTA/FOSTA/KOSA are all meaningless when these fuckers just ignore actual mainstreaming of CSAM
Yeah, it has long been the case that adult-oriented businesses have to be careful or risk the wrath of everyone from prosecutors to payment-processing companies, but "prominent social media company owned by world's richest person swiftly became world's largest CSAM producer" produces no reaction.
Elon Musk chatbot repeatedly making CSAM on demand should be one of the single biggest stories right now and it's effectively a collective shrug instead
January 5, 2026 at 2:47 PM
Exactly. If you draft sloppy laws because you're driven by outrage vibes and the people phoning your office about the issue are too, you'll make things worse for the people already least protected by the law. But the latter just get viewed as acceptable collateral damage (see also: SESTA/FOSTA).
January 5, 2026 at 11:31 PM
She's correct about Dems and "child safety" laws. Stranger danger laws, the 90s crime bill and its relationship to "crack babies" and FAS, more recently SESTA-FOSTA and KOSA. These are Dem specials that endanger the marginalized at the whims of the privileged feeling "safer" vs being safer.
January 5, 2026 at 11:14 AM
Like, advertisers gotta be pressured over this. However bad Tumblr seemingly was to have FOSTA SESTA thrown at it, what the fuck does it mean when the owner of Twitter refuses to stop the process of csam creation or revenge porn rendering on the spot?
The end goal of Grok sexual harassment is to make women afraid to be visible. It’s a punishment for daring to exist in a way the perpetrators can’t control. There’s no one solution to this, because the problem isn’t just technological. It’s cultural. It’s misogyny. This is just one expression of it.
