Arguing since birth. Urban planning, politics, weather, Drag Race, and photography are all fair game. Opinions are strictly my own—unless others agree. I assume that strings of emojis in people's bios are their washing instructions
Honestly, how at this point is it enough just to "observe" if one of these is being built in your community and/or if people in your community are being taken to one?

What do we wish Germans had done when Jews/others were rounded up? Answer that question, and that's what we should be doing now
Instead of train cars, we'll have semi truck trailers of people being loaded into concentration camps where they'll race substantial likelihood of dying from neglect, malnutrition, disease, and murder.
ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

Once again we have a narrative violation by today's young people, among whom Trump's approval rating stands at 28%

In mid 2006, Bush's approval rating among the same age demographic stood at 33%

But I thought that social media had turned all the young people into alt-right reactionaries? 🤔

Been saying this for months

But the left is so anti-AI pilled that they are letting the oligarchs distract them from what are likely the real causes of the current hiring and economic slow down (and also giving the AI hype boys a boost by making AI seem more broadly capable than it actually is yet)

Y'all, the most watched televised event of the year in the US just delivered a direct and unmistakable rebuke to white nationalism and the racist, demented man in the White House

We are going to win. Let's work together to make it happen as quickly as possible

Are the utility poles a comment on how the US mainland left Puerto Rico to suffer without electricity for weeks and months after Hurricane Maria?

"Being human shouldn't be this hard" coming from the religion that has for centuries led the charge on persecuting Jews, gays, witches, indigenous people, etc., is truly rich

This is what I get for agreeing to watch the half time show and the surrounding ads

The enormous swings we are seeing in state elections are not especially likely to translate fully to federal elections, but it is worth keeping in mind that 30+ point swings put Senate seats in states like SC, FL, TN, and KS in play

We must keep our feet on the gas and also protect the vote
With 100% of precincts now reporting in Louisiana State House 60:
- 🔵 Chasity Verret Martinez (D) - 5,159 (62.0%)
- 🔴 Brad Daigle (R) - 3,169 (38.0%)

Not enough people talk about how the effective ban on cannabis users becoming law enforcement officers reinforces the fascistic tendencies of many law enforcement agencies

Think about the types of young people nowadays who 100% abstain from cannabis usage. That's who's allowed to become police

Imagine getting to the afterlife and the person behind the desk reviewing your file goes "OK, let's see what we've got here... A judge, I see! Very impressive—oh, you approved bringing concentration camps back to America? Hmm... just wait here a moment while I get the downstairs manager..."
BREAKING: A 5th Circuit panel has backed ICE's mass detention policy, a decision that clears the way for the administration to lock up people who are in immigration proceedings

It's a 2-1 ruling
Majority: Jones (Reagan), Duncan (Trump)
Minority: Douglas (Obama)

Sorry I scared you

I'm just scream-laugh-crying at the folks on BlueSky saying we shouldn't welcome the safety benefits of Waymo because AVs will undermine the car-free future that even 88%-for-Kamala Berkeley can't agree to create because heaven forbid we build bike lines where we said we would

Love to see it: Properly parked scooters in a designated scooter parking area!

Did I briefly stumble into a bubble of the good timeline?

Shout out to @berkeleyca.gov @cecilialunaparra.bsky.social @markhumbert.bsky.social who have been working to make such small miracles happen more often

If the Trump regime is going to claim the video was posted by a staffer, Dems should demand the staffer be fired and identified so others don't hire them

Keep repeating the demand. Insist that if it was a staffer they must be dismissed and made an example of

If they don't, ask why not

I just saw a cyclist to get hit at Shattuck and Hearst. Despite a ton of witnesses, I was the only person to report it or approach the cyclist to offer contact information (other than the driver)

Makes you realize just how much traffic violence probably goes wholly unreported

"Crypto winter" is a term used by snakeoil salespeople and those who make money reporting on them to dupe people into believing that there should and always will be a new " crypto spring" that follows

But cryptocurrency deserves to perish in fire and water, and probably will someday

I've been watching / attending various Berkeley City Council meetings for 20 years now and have seen pretty much all of them beginning to end for the last ~5 years

This comment goes harder than any other public comment I have ever heard in my life
Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

A few years ago, I would not have expected "fucking spineless press corps" to be something I'd see Jen Rubin write, but we've arrived and I'm kinda here for it

If I hear one more NIMBY talk about how much infill housing is "costing" the City or state, I might start shrieking incoherently
The current exposure for the California FAIR plan (California’s insurer of last resort) sits at $724 billion. Its liability almost doubled in two years and is now more than double the state’s annual budget. In its most recent financial reporting it had about $1.5 billion on hand.

I would say I fed four birds with one scone with this strategic repositioning of a scooter that was blocking the ADA access ramp to the sidewalk

I unironically believe that whatever happens to the Kennedy Center—demolition and abandonment, actual rebuilding, whatever—once Trump is gone we should 100% rename it the Kennedy-Obama Center

Not because the Obamas have anything to do with it, but because it will drive Trump/MAGA absolutely crazy

Now's as good a time as any to recapitulate the importance of reframing debates

When someone says "Why are you for open borders?" just reply "Do you think people should go to prison for moving between US states?" or "Do you think people should go to prison for trying to keep their kids safe?"

I am willing to bet that none of these proposed new concentration camps are in California or other West Coast states in part because they know we should shut that shit down like *snap* that

I did not have Trump laying bare the fundamental problem with US housing policy on today's bingo card

Housing can't be affordable 𝘢𝘯𝘥 a good investment

It's almost refreshing to be able to briefly focus on some utterance of his that hits on interesting policy questions rather than just raw fascism
Trump: "I don't want to drive housing prices down. I want to drive housing prices up for people who own homes."
