I cannot stress this enough: going and doing something like this is a far better use of your time than arguing online about a primary campaign in a state/district where you don't even live. I'll be doing it again myself soon!
I went and volunteered at a food bank just a few days ago. it was good! there are more effective ways to feed people, sure, but it's still good! we fed lots of people. the org overall fed more. we'd all be better off if even more orgs and more people spent time and money doing stuff like that.

Real radical left goals are UBI Reparations, guaranteed housing, free child care, etc. (all good ideas, only "fringe" because of how far right the center has gotten.) But if pundits told people that lunatic lefties want to help people, it would kill the both-sides game.
Even if you think the plastic-bag stuff is stupid, Democrats *are* the party of tax fairness, affordable health care and food for the poor compared to Republicans.

Whether the party is defined by those things is mostly up to pundits like Matt who decide what to focus on.

So much of "cancel culture" discourse is a re-description of the normal functioning of a democracy and public discourse by people who didn't like the results of one, or both, or how it made them feel.
Saying that someone doesn’t deserve to be a senator isn’t canceling them, that is the public opinion candidates are subject to in a democracy.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

once again thinking about the people on here arguing with me because i said our politics needs to contend with the huge number of people in this country with shitty values and harmful political commitments.
Another way of looking at this chart is that everything being done by the government is to keep 73% of self-identified Republicans, and virtually no one else, "satisfied, happy or thrilled"
69% percent of Democrats and 21% of Independents are either furious or angry.

Probably doesn't matter much in the grand scheme. But I suppose the only useful thing left to do if you're on this Court, and KBJ seems to have this impulse, is shred their pretense of good-faith legitimacy and normalcy. Mock them, denigrate them, call them dishonest, and make them publish it.

That’s what’s so wild about the LLMs. There are harms from the technology everywhere, and it’s going to get worse in the short term. Just education, that one use case, could cause massive damage to our society. Then you look at all the other applications and it’s so daunting.

similarly the numerous conservatives that NPR and PBS platformed and promoted did nothing to defend those institutions. if they are destroyed, the conservatives will move to sinecures at think tanks or right-wing funded media. they were placed there, in some sense TO destroy NPR/PBS.
Turns out that NPR and PBS' pandering to the right still didn't save their funding. Maybe there's a lesson here for media that think that tilting to the right will spare them from accusations of "liberal bias."
The rescission bill has passed the Senate. Once it passes the House, as expected, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's budget will be zeroed out for the first time since 1967, back when TV stations still broadcast in black and white.
