we should not be letting any company get away with blaming AI for their failures. I'm not even sure how we got to this point. people are like "it's just a tool" okay so is a forklift and we still hold somebody responsible when it goes wrong and hurts someone. this is YOUR AI!

I would put more money on continuing to harvest infinite energy from the sun over assuming that forcing everyone to use The Machine The Lies To You is the steady basis of an entire economy
A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?
China has made cheap, clean energy available in huge quantities. The world should take the win econ.st/4oqFszB

I don't know if that's true anymore. Real newspapers have a limited scope, the erosion of local news means that the bar for stuff to get reported on is quite high, and I see stuff on TikTok all of the time that people is saying is happening in their communities that I have no way to verify
I feel one million years old here, but we do actually have a pretty reliable way of knowing what news is true. Did a real newspaper publish it? Then probably yes. Can’t find it in a real newspaper? Maybe not.
A large majority of U.S. adults now get news digitally, but nondigital news consumers are less likely to say they extremely often or often encounter inaccurate news.

Epstein's buddy and OG Silicon Valley nepo baby probably killed millions when he decided to keep the "free" vaccine his global health iniatitive helped develop as a for-profit patent.

I actually agree with this. But then, the Two World Wars, the Holodomor, the Great Leap Forward or Pol Pot's killing fields didn't lead to humanity's demise either. But the world would have been better off it they hadn't happened.

Mamdami can't be president because the Constitution says so, but Trump can run three times and personally distribute funds to allies and himself despite what the Constitution says.
I think we need to get past the mourning period and realize the U.S. Constitution is dead letter law now.

Rebranding "NIMBY" to mean "anyone who opposes what I want to build, however dumb or harmful it may be" and "abundance" to mean "permission to build anything I want, however dumb or harmful it may be" is some very predictable co-opting.
What if we built good things and not bad things.

So much of "cancel culture" discourse is a re-description of the normal functioning of a democracy and public discourse by people who didn't like the results of one, or both, or how it made them feel.
Saying that someone doesn’t deserve to be a senator isn’t canceling them, that is the public opinion candidates are subject to in a democracy.
