Mostly baking and crosswords
It’s 8pm on a cold wet November Thursday, I’m tired and didn’t think I was up for a gig tonight but I already had a ticket for Decius at the Scala so here I am… and DJ Rosie Ama is very quickly getting me in exactly the right mood. This is flipping fantastic… it’s going to be a good night after all!

A £4,000 e-bike replaces a £35,000 car. An e-bike saves the NHS £1,400/year. An e-bike cuts emissions immediately. Yet Rachel Reeves wants to limit the cycle to work scheme while preserving tax breaks for £60,000 Teslas? Make it make sense.

On FB, God asks what the H in Jesus H Christ stands for. There were lots of answers, & i didn't really want to read them all. But i took a peak, and 2 already had what i was going to write. Howard, of course. It's in the Lord's Prayer. "Our Father, who art in Heaven, Howard by thy name."

Started reading Kurt Vonnegut’s Palm Sunday today. Published in 1981 but still very relevant. Vonnegut’s reaction to conservatives banning and burning his books is as powerful today as it ever was… 1/3

Superb! 👏
I used to run a pub quiz. Inspired by @uncleskinny.bsky.social I decided to give one of my favourite old picture rounds a wider audience. No instructions, it should be quite obvious what the question is 😆

This is the content I’m here for. Worth reading the replies
It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.

77 year-old cyclist who fell 40m into a ravine survived in the cold and the rain for three days by drinking "several bottles" of the wine he was bringing home from the market.

I had this book. Loved it. The feedback Larson got about Cow Tools must have made it all worthwhile...
Um...actually you should have this one because it is the book that discusses Cow Tools and it's origins 🤓

One of the all-time greats. Still makes me laugh after all these years...

The bitterly ironic transformation of the iconography of the poppy, from sombre reminder of the senseless futility of a war in which the British ruling class systematically ordered the wholesale slaughter of millions of working-class men, to 'War Christmas', says everything about the current crisis

Calling pounds, shillings and pence Lsd makes no sense. It should either be Psp or lounds, shillings and dence.

What im clumsily saying is when you're from a minority group you know. You develop an intuition for how others see you that runs the gamut from "trying too hard" to "hostile" You know from life experience that most people are not racist but that many who are dont even think they are.

Quiet morning so using that as an excuse to dip into my copy of Unch which arrived over the weekend. I mostly do crosswords online these days but it’s nice to be reminded of the pleasure of solving the old-fashioned way. Lovely looking mag, @unchcrosswords.com - well done to all involved!

Remember in the Twitter age when Pizza Express was threatened with 'folding' and 5,176 people made the joke about 'so now it's a calzone'. Let's learn from history. Just nominate one person who gets to do the gag and move on.

Had to uninstall Crossword Compiler from old laptop. Didn't export clue database first... Selected the "don't delete clue database" option but then couldn't find file on laptop. Fortunately simple fix - reinstall CC, export database, then uninstall again. BIG sigh of relief!

-Over a dozen airports refused to play Kristi Noem's propaganda video
-30+ press outlets refused to comply with Pete Hegseth's new restrictions

The only way to rebuke Trump's authoritarianism is solidarity.
