I was driving with my wife and kid to NJ on I-84 around Christmas as Sandy Hook was happening. We were 2 hours from passing through at 80 mph hearing the news. then 90 minutes. listening to news radio just repeating cop chatter. man, were those first reports inaccurate.
also extremely common: reports of multiple shooters operating together. This is 99% of the time bogus due to the fact that police return fire or people hear 5-10 shots as 30-50 shots. all these kinds of cognitive errors are so common as to be nearly universal. it's no one's fault. we're bad at this.
