The problem is "give them hobbies" (as I saw someone I generally agree with post) isn't going to fix this. Society is falling apart and the old world is dying and you kinda need to fix that. They're aimless because they've been fed a steady stream of capitalist exceptionalism into the death of cptl.

I don’t know man. Something about the fact young guys spend so much time gaming and indoors getting irony poisoned to the fact they write video game memes on bullet casings makes me think we got a problem with aimless young men in society.

Each alleged mass shooter is even more On the Computer All the Time than the previous one. Probably nothing to worry about there
September 12, 2025 at 3:57 PM
@ryanhatesthis.bsky.social described this phenomenon really well on Panic World recently - these young people are playing with these mass casualty events like they would a meme.

They’re terminally online shitposters bringing their terrible views IRL to hurt and traumatize people for the LOLS.
And now that we know the shooter was a Groyper, it's confirmed that this was a case of fascist on fascist violence. Or at the very least someone who was radicalized by and speaking the language of fascists online.
There is EVERY reason to believe that a fellow fascist shot Kirk. Someone who thought he wasn't extreme enough, or who came to believe he was a traitor to the cause, or who became obsessed/unhinged, or even someone who thinks it will help their preferred fascist take his place in MAGA hierarchy.

Can you imagine the outrage if Biden/Harris/Obama or their respective VPs showed up to pay respects to a school shooting a week after it happened????

If you want to know where we are on autism, I was just interviewing a child psychiatrist for a piece who told me that parents are afraid of getting their kids an autism diagnosis because they are afraid of the stigma and RFK Jr.'s talk about an autism registry.

Just a heads up. I was able to schedule my COVID vaccine appointment. Online it will ask “do you have a condition that puts you at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19 virus.”

Click yes and it will allow you to schedule an appointment.

No questions asked.

No proof required.

Pass it on.

While I fundamentally agree that children should not be mobbed by reporters after a tragic event, I think something that we forget is that children are people too and sometimes they want to talk about what happened. If my child wanted to talk to a reporter about his experience, I would let him.

Days like today always remind me how what may be a pretty normal day for someone might be the worst day of their life for someone else.

Today in Minneapolis there are so many kids, parents, grandparents, teachers, first responders, healthcare workers, journalists, & others dealing with A Lot.

Lists of conditions/situations that qualify someone as high risk (whether this will work for getting latest round of vaccines remains to be seen):

I'm at high risk due to depression, ADHD, weight, physical inactivity, hypertension, & more!

Reminder that the majority of people in the U.S. have "certain health conditions" that would qualify them as at high risk of bad outcomes. Unless they make changes to that list.

This is still alarming & not great, of course. We need to fight for vaccines & affordable access to them.

Watching a 10 year old (with permission from a guardian) calmly recount watching his friend getting shot in the back, and getting gunpowder on his neck, is messing with me.

I can admire his poise, but he should never have to do this. No child should.
