There will be all kinds of people coming out of the woodwork to ensure that the only result of the Epstein files coming out is more restrictions on sex work and more censorship. They can and will use it as an excuse to make sex workers less safe.
#SaveSpeech

if you've seen a video going around of Epstein survivors talking about their abuse, you need to be aware that video is promoting World-Without-Exploitation, an organization whose website supports legislation like KOSA, and advocates for the "Nordic model"

they are not your allies.

This is exactly what happened.
Kind of feels like the IOC expected for the study to say "yeah trans women are like the hulk somehow" and when it completely undercut the reasoning behind banning us. They have simply elected to ignore their own work.

If you don't welcome in outsiders, you're fucked. If you can't make space for wannabe parents to fall in love and form households, you're fucked. If you can't help shoulder the burdens of raising a family and rearing kids into fully functioning adults, you're fucked.

This is one reason I'm expecting intense natural selection in forms of government and cultural norms returning to the fore.

If you don't have a society that's at least reasonably inclusive towards migrants, children, and parents, your country is gonna literally fucking die.
the actual suicide of the West will be combining a rapidly aging population with hostility to migrants. however we must give credit to East Asia, especially Japan, for pioneering this model.

Even if they haven't actually read the cherry-picked hit piece that is the Cass Review, imagine seeing the comedically inept and unpopular UK government and thinking "nah, yeah, we need to be more like them!".

Actually, it's Chris "Laser-Focus" Luxon and his government, so it's all too believable.
It's being reported that New Zealand has banned puberty blockers for transgender youth. I removed New Zealand from my recommendations to families fleeing a while back after the far right saw a surge in power in the country.

Sad day for NZ trans youth.

The male loneliness epidemic is largely driven by a male worthlessness epidemic. 😮‍💨

Apologies there is no alt text, but the first pic is a smiling Juliet Turner who just got her PhD in ecology. Then there are huge collages of Twitter replies from hateful men degrading her for this accomplishment.

For me it's the way the press pool just quietly went along with it because he's the president

The entire point of this country is that we don't have to let some guy do whatever he wants just because of his title. We don't have to respect him or go along with him just because he holds an office
I don't know why the "Piggy" thing is bothering me so much. It's one more unforgivable thing in a list of 20,000 unforgivable things, but I've been mad about it for like 12 straight hours.

The judge really lets rip here, at length - the courts have clearly had enough of the Burkes.

He also ruled that criminal contempt proceedings should be taken against Mr Burke as well as his brother Isaac, sister Ammi and mother, Martina for their conduct in court hearings.
“The judge said Mr Burke had not been imprisoned or fined for his views on transgender issues, which he was perfectly entitled to have and to articulate... he had been dismissed from his position for gross misconduct.”

I love Subnautica. Second only to The Long Dark in terms of open-world survival games for me. That said, I will not buy or play Subnautica 2. If the only true power we have in this system is voting with our wallets, then I refuse to reward this kind of "leadership" with my money.

When I evacuated from the hurricane in 2005, the Red Cross offered us cash to help with expenses.

The Salvation Army offered us "a hot meal" which was just a smoked sausage soaked in cheap barbecue sauce with a stale slice of white bread we had to say how thankful we were while getting preached at.
I know it's a tad early but I know those bitches with the buckets will be out soon. Don't gove them a penny. The volunteers may not know but the salvation army is no ally and actively combative and harmful to many queer minorities especially during the holiday season

The "she does not own a car..." part is so telling. They just can't conceive of a politician who isn't already rich. She's not poor, just not one of the wealthy class of people who are allowed to be 'serious' political candidates.
You guys realize that taxing people to pay for services isn't socialism, right? This is just how governments work.

conceding to far right ideas about the structure of society is conceding to a zero sum vision of the world, and more importantly giving voters a choice between two zero sum visions, where one is half hearted and the other is full throated. is it really a surprise then they choose the latter?

to be clear, i also do not think it is necessarily true that adopting a laundry list of progressive positions is an instant win either. i think you have to do the work of discovering what it is that voters want in a direct and engaged way. and i think that voters want moral leadership.
it is almost as if accommodating and conceding to far right ideas legitimizes them and signals to voters that the far right is a legitimate choice for governance
The Danish Social Democrats are currently on course for their worst election result since at least the Second World War, despite their brand of far-right accommodationism being touted as a blueprint for other centre-left parties.

Yes. If you ever think banks should be allowed to cut off financial services for "morality" reasons, just note that neither Epstein's pedophilia, nor Miller's Nazism, nor RFK Jr's eugenics, nor Musk's destruction of USAID caused banks any "moral" concerns whatsoever.
We cannot allow financial institutions which regularly cross the line from amoral to explicitly immoral to hold a dehumanizing line against people who do sex work.
I don't believe for a moment that this debanking effort is because of Ana's sex work rather than her reporting, but also even if that was the reason it shouldn't be allowed.

None of the content Ana has ever made is illegal. There is no justification to cut her off from the banking system.

I had to give back a T-shirt an organizer gave me while I covered their marathon. Multiple outlets I've worked for had explicit policies on returning angpao and putting any swag in an officewide pool. Not sleeping with sources was taken as a given, but I guess that never reached the US east coast.
