I often think that a lot of our discourses are bound up in an ongoing struggle to understand our relationship to suffering. Not just that it is unavoidable, but that elements of suffering are inextricable from our greatest joy and deepest access to meaning.

One of the most frustrating things about news reporting now is the refusal to include things we already know—such as the recent perversion of what are supposed to be science-based agencies into anti-science propaganda mills—into the framing of individual breaking stories.
Headlines like this are extremely dangerous. Because moms of young kids are the people who make the bulk of the vaccine decisions for famillies. And for a lot of them, "reading the news" looks like scrolling past headlines on social media in the spare moments of the chaos of caring for kids.
