Technically AI can’t have morals (which are conventions, norms) or ethics (principled values) as (1) it isn’t part of society and (2) can’t be held accountable for itself

If we know now that this is the bad way to grow food, why wouldn't it be obvious that this is the bad way to create culture?

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.
Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

For context, Cincinnati is where Bush 2 went to make his Iraq War speech bc the area was perceived to be most friendly audience for the GOP. If the Enquirer is saying this, it means something.
Love and support you always, Cincinnati Enquirer (support local media), but esp today

This is a Midwest daily paper. About as middle of the road as you can get

& they understand that this is an objective, straight news headline, in the context of a planned Trump/GOP onslaught in Springfield, etc

The 'poor people need AI to make art' line is about as opposite of this as you can get

nobody needs to rely on huge corporations to make art

If I was still teaching I'd teach this clip and then a clip of JD alongside Nietzsche's Genealogy of Morals & Deleuze's "Active & Reactive" essay bc they are each great examples of those two types, active & reactive. one creates from and with confidence, the other merely negates what the one creates
No one has yet talked in depth about Mamdani's play- as in, a childlike wonder and ceaseless fun and joy. That is rooted in what he learned from his mom about acting, which is pure play. Everything he does is rooted in encouraging US to be more playful, too. It's wonderful.
Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

I find it HILARIOUS that they're reading The Genealogy of Morals bc the main point of the first essay is a takedown of reactionary thought as unoriginal and lazy and if you don't understand that then, well, you clearly aren't qualified to be teaching it lol
Update on Bari Weiss University

If I worked for any reputable organisation, I'd flag the use of '88' in any messaging, since it's an infamous neo-Nazi bullhorn, especially if your first reading list for 'Origins of 21st Century Right-Wing Thought' (w/ selections from Nick Land and Curtis Yarvin?)

or put differently the precaritization that hit academia decades ago is now spreading across to other white-collar sectors
I think it's best for everyone to understand that the unified class project of billionaires right now is to do to white collar workers what globalization and neoliberalism did to blue collar workers.

Idk if it was my dad’s favorite movie (I don’t think he…cared about media and culture), but The Blues Brothers was always on basic cable somewhere and that seemed to be what we watched together many times
What’s everyone’s favorite dad movie
