This is what happens when you don't regulate prices for the things that people have no choice but to buy.

Also, would like to note on clothing and furniture prices: The prices may be level, but the products are *so* much worse.
Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

This would be a great opportunity for an American news outlet to confirm. If true, this is ghastly on so many levels.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Some of these assholes think they can outlive their detractors and reform their legacy. This is an elegant and honest summary of his life. And death should never be the protection these pariahs think they are owed.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Jared Moskowitz: Dick Cheney's story is interesting, they used to call him Darth Vader. But, if you know the story of Darth Vader in the sixth episode, he throws the Emperor down the shaft to save his son. And Dick Cheney actually did that towards the end to protect his daughter from Trump.

Typhoid Mary was right! Their right to privacy and bodily autonomy is more important than society or the health of others. And their victims have the right to die with dignity, like the Founders™ intended, protecting one person's liberty.
In case anyone needs a reminder of how successful the Republican attack on public health has been:

A person who is the first probable measles case near Salt Lake City refuses to speak to the health department, so anyone they came into contact with can’t be warned.

This is especially insidious…
Measles outbreak investigation in Utah blocked by patient who refuses to talk
The person refused to even tell health officials their address.

One of the prime examples of our strange times.
how is this guy simultaneously completely fucking insane and a more honorable opponent than any republican in national office
I do not think he should be mayor, but this is so much healthier of an approach to take toward a democratic election than anything we are hearing from Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo is going to leave NYC the moment he loses. Sliwa seems to truly want to stay in this great city.

"Can Donald Trump run for a 3rd term?"
No.
"What if he..."
Still no.
"How about..."
STFU, No.
"Then why are we talking about it!?"
Because evil MAGA apparatchiks need you to fear that he will.

I explain in @thenation.com

Why Has Trump Been Flirting With a Third Term?
Trump cannot be president again. But he and his loyal followers have every reason for wanting to make people think he can.

It's a true difference as time progressed. Went from old boy, all male crim justice to the surveillance state with a progressive bent. Jack McCoy was great, but he bent/broke the rules and became way too zealous as time went on
It absolutely got much worse over time

Weirdly, I have just been binge watching Law & Order from the beginning. What strikes me is how so much has changed, and not for the better. They say the past is another country, and the country of Law & Order seems (from the outside at least) to have disappeared.

Not being even vaguely sarcastic:

At some point, a journalist needs to ask Johnson “you regularly claim you have no idea what your own government is doing. If we take you at your word, how are you so poorly informed, and do you this level of ignorance should disqualify you as speaker?”
Q: What's your message to the 170 US citizens who have been detained by ICE? About 20 of them are children

MIKE JOHNSON: I don't know what you're talking about with the children. I haven't seen that so I'm not going to comment on it.

It's nice to see innovative design in the world. We'll see if reality meets the design, but the fact that the parts can be adapted to three unique configurations with one kit is impressive.

Separately, I learned a new word today: Obloquy (ob·lo·quy): strong public criticism or verbal abuse.

Nothing more explains why this is not and should not become the norm. If you want law enforcement to be treated with respect, they must act with honor. Anything less, and they will be treated as thugs.

This is what every member of Congress and every executive of any major business, should be asked often and not be allowed to brush it off.

I have been to 8 GWAR shows in my life, will be taking my niece and nephew next month. It's spectacle; it's guys in big rubber monster costumes. Having an outlet for fantasy, including exaggerated political violence, is a benefit to society.

You can tell that the bots have gotten really good at Evel Knieveling the uncanny valley when it comes to human form. But there is still the fun "Find what's wrong with this image" when it comes to the background, especially when it comes to video. I've never seen a door work like that.
