Okay, my follower count and mix on here is now such that I need to say this:

If you know me in real life, no you don't.

If you saw me at a place I can routinely be found, no you didn't.

Thank you for understanding.
This is what happens when you don't regulate prices for the things that people have no choice but to buy.

Also, would like to note on clothing and furniture prices: The prices may be level, but the products are *so* much worse.
Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

Just now we needed farmers and cooks.

Tomorrow we need medics and herbalists.

When I say "find an organization" and "learn a skill" over and over again, that's why.

You can be the person we need.

Okay, folks, we had our fun.

Seeing the Democrats do the right thing for a minute was nice, but it's like seeing a dog dance on two legs; you know it's not gonna last.

Let's get back to the real work.

Feeling somewhat vindicated in my continued support of the government shutdown, if only because "Look at these evil motherfuckers trying to claw back food money" is the headline in the whole country's face right now.

James Acaster showed up in my dream last night and I've spent my first half-hour of consciousness trying to figure out why.

This is what I saw when I opened my news app of choice.

I would just like to point out that there is no way in HELL you could figure out what happened today based on these words and pictures.

Y'all...I'm watching fights break out in replies because people got differing messages on what is happening with food stamps.

Stop.

It's a disaster. Nobody knows what's happening or will happen. Give it a minute.

They're trying to drown us in mud, and some of you are wrestling each other in it.

At the grocery store to use the $127 that Vermont sent out for food stamps.

It's busy.

Almost everyone coming out of the store is carting what looks like exactly $127 worth of food. Exactly twice that for people with a kid in tow.

This is how 10% of people eat. It really is.

If this is how this plays out, then as far as I can tell, they fucked up and got nothing for it.

They resisted sending out funds so hard they made the news as bad guys for a week---even on Fox---and then lost anyway.

If the plan was to create unrest through hunger, they didn't even get that.
BREAKING: The USDA tells states funds will be made available later today to pay November SNAP benefits in full.

NaNoWriMo day 7.

Plans to edit a chapter a day are toast.

Some pages take a day. Some chapters take no work at all.

The whole point of this is that the book is uneven and I'm out here with a level and a teeny tiny hammer to tap things into square.

As of today, I have still received no SNAP funds from the federal government.

The state of Vermont, however, did step in and send me $127, which is supposed to cover the next two weeks.

Again: Because I need to stay broke to qualify for Medicaid, this is my entire food budget.

NaNoWriMo day 6.

OCD masquerading as superstition has worked its way in.

The first day I felt good about the work, I stretched, cracked the window, lit a candle, and started edits.

I am now doing this every day, because *what if that's the magic*

Okay, for those of you who may have missed 90s discourse:

Ace of Base was founded by a neonazi.

Also, Chumbawamba are antifa.
I rarely encounter ads anymore, because I have built my digital life around blocking them, but I just heard one featuring an Ace of Base song. Looks like somebody missed the discourse on that one. I'll bet they're about to find out, though.

The doctor's office calls me, texts me, and emails me 24 hours before a video appointment. Then again 1 hour before the appointment. Then sends me a link that says I must sign on fifteen minutes early or else.

The doctor is always late.

I used to hate the phrase "food insecurity." Do people have enough food? No? Then they're hungry. Maybe starving. Don't dress it up.

Except now, with no food stamps, I'm rationing even though there's food in the house because there might not be more. This is food insecurity. It *is* different.
November 6, 2025 at 3:49 AM
This is also true of McDonald's, except their employees can't buy McDonald's (or any hot food) with food stamps.
Very notably, people are working full-time at Walmart, and still qualifying for SNAP. Walmart gives their employees a class on applying for benefits.

And then those employees spend their SNAP *at Walmart*.

That's the con, right there.
Let me trickle a few clues on the trail to understanding food insecurity in a nation that COULD, and damn well SHOULD, easily afford sufficient food in this country for everyone, birth to death. 1. Many people who need food assistance *are working full time* but are paid so little they cannot

I know I'm reposting a lot of articles (by my usual personal standard, anyway) but if it's any consolation, I do read them all first.

I developed this policy so 1. I don't just spam people with headlines I like, and 2. I can make sure that the article isn't unreadable slop or six words long.

"'They’re spending more money than I would even tax them,' [Mamdani] said in an interview with MSNBC last week."

This is the message. Make it clear that these billionaires aren't just worried about losing money. They're worried about losing the ability to exchange their money for power.

NaNoWriMo day 5.

Edits easier today. Rather than try to rework word choice from a decade in my own past, it is mostly about cuts now...I finally noticed the first chapter is three times longer than any of the others.

There's so much meandering here where I hadn't figured out where I was going yet.

The bar has closed and I'm home in bed but I can't stop joyscrolling.

Think I'm just gonna eat some garbage snacks and fuck up my sleep schedule.

Got presented with the opportunity to do a little good community deed while out tonight and was just unusually pumped about it. HELL YEAH. MUTUAL AID IS FOR LOVERS. LET'S GO.

I think I have been so starved for good news that I'm high on the Zohran win like I'm on pure oxygen.
